Nice to see, but saddened by it. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Stock fly the Lightning at two Airshows in South Africa in 2005. Fond memories.

How sad.

Was that a reheat bay fire? My mind drifts back to the late 60's at Tengah, when 74 lost a young and new pilot on the sqn. In his first trip on the sqn in an F6, he had a fire warning downwind - he pressed on. His No 2 [a sqn ldr flt cdr] said "eject". He didn't. The ac went out of control and crashed at the end of the downwind leg - Pete didn't survive the ejection.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the elevator control rods had burned through due to the fire in the reheat bay. I recall that the rods were subsequently modified with more fire-resistant material.

Is that pertinent to this case? I have no idea. It just triggered a sad memory of a guy my age spearing in.

A nice tribute, I was half expecting the usual dis-respectful trash that is common on the net
