Hi

Has anyone recently used Nathan Higgins for ATPL NAV, just wanted to see how good the notes were and how close the practice questions are to the real thing.

Cheers

His notes are great, very straight forward and easy to understand. As for the practice questions, they are kinda similar to the real thing, but all in all good practice!

A few years back i used the higgins notes for nav. Even though I passed, the thing that caught me out was there were a lot of questions on the theory then i was expecting. eg how radio transmitting works, Polarization etc.

Rob Avery has good books that are spot on. Leaves you well set up for the 1st interview too! :ok:

From memory the AFT Nav notes are very clear, concise and easy to follow self studying.

What I did find off-putting particularly with performance and loading is that while the notes covered everything required in the syllabus the CASA exams asked questions from a different perspective. This meant a fair portion of time trying to work out how to answer the casa examination questions working inside out and back to front so to speak.

The notes will get you through, but if you want a high pass (over 90%) I would suggest getting a second set of notes for more detailed information and a different perspective.

If you just want to pass and get the examinations out the way, the AFT notes will most definitely get you through.

I have to disagree with GG, Nathan's texts cover everything you will need for the exam especially his cyberexams.

If it's a mark over 90% your talking about well that just comes with damn hard work.

I found the AFT notes to be generally excellent.

The practice questions are close to the real ones and in some ways this can be a bad thing. I remember getting a question in the exam that was nearly identical to one of the practice ones, nearly. The problem was that it wasn't exactly the same and there was a real danger of thinking that you recognised the question and coming up with an answer without picking how the question was different.

I used the AFT notes for everything and passed everything first time. I did get Rob Avery's systems notes because I felt the AFT ones were a bit light and I wanted another angle.

Good luck!

I sat my NAV exam in November 09. Used AFT's notes exclusively - actually did the course in Maroochy earlier in August.

Excellent notes and fantastic Cyberexams. Make sure you do ALL the Cyberexams. In the actual exam I had seen all the 1 markers - very, very, very similar wording and type of question. The 2 and 3 markers were very similar too.

For this exam, exam technique is everything and you have to be fast and accurate - time limited at 90min.
