Can anyone help I am trying to locate pics of HMS Brilliants Lynx helicopters during the Falklands War for a project, so far I have one poor pic sourced from the IWM. I also need details of the alterations to the paintscheme during the operation.

Thanks in advance.

Didn't Brilliants Lynx have 1/2 its nose taken off by a bomb bouncing up through the flightdeck during the A4 engagement that sunk Coventry ?? - seem to remember seeing pics of the aftermath

Brilliant was our Goalkeeper during the '82 conflict - often used to look out at her from the forward hangar sidelift opening and think "Brilliant by name - Brilliant by nature "

Was Broadsword'sLynx that had it's nose removed bu UXB on 25th May whilst operating with HMS Coventry when the later was sunk by air attack.

A bit of Googling throws up this:

Caused by this:

I know this is like yesterday for some. All the best to them all.

Reminds me of a signal sent by the first Captain of BRILLIANT, a well known and very forthright submarine officer and who was awarded the DSO following the conflict, when the ship passed the submarine SPLENDID in the Channel- "You may be SPLENDID but I am BRILLIANT":ok:

Rucawo, do you have the reggies and the code No.'s of the airframes you are interested in? I was in the Falklands Dec 82-May 83 and have some. What is the colour scheme you are refering to? If it is the blue one with the white part of the roundel blacked out, I have one but not sure which ship it was from.

I believe this view of HMS Coventry's Lynx may help for paint schemes. I thought that COV had XZ242 but the caption says that it is XZ257.

The Lynx were HAS.2s, XZ725 and XZ729 I believe the scheme on both was Oxford Blue with the white painted out but to what extent and was it with blue or black is what I'm trying to nail down. Both are still active as HMA.8s.

We used blue to paint out the white, but I fear that it was down to what was easily available at the time.

Just checking that you have seen this link (http://www.hmsbrilliant.com/hmsb.cgi?page=dsection4) and its other sections.

Rucawo, nothing in my slide collection of those two airframes, from my Falklands stint, and they were all grey anyway. Can't find the stuff I got on Ascension at the moment, but the blue Lynx with the white painted out, example I have, I'm pretty sure it was painted out with black paint. I'll try and find it as quick as I can and let you know.
