In 2008, I wrote a book called RAF Wattisham - A Pictorial History which Ad Hoc published. I am now in the process of writing a similar book on the history of RAF North Weald.

I would like to contact any personel who served at North Weald, be it air or ground crew with a view to getting some anecdotes for inclusion.

If you served or know of anyone who did please contact me (PM if preferred).

Thanks,
Dave Eade

Dave

Write to the CO of 56 Sqn at RAF Waddington. He will have contact with the 56 Sqn association and some that flew from North Weald during the Battle of Britain. I think Maurice Mounsden is still with us and I think he was a BoB pilot from North Weald.

Give this a try:

Commanding Officer
No 56 Sqn
RAF Waddington
LINCOLN
Sorry, I don't know the postcode.

I also found this for you on the internet here (RAFRA - Squadrons (http://www.associations.rafinfo.org.uk/squadron.htm)):

56 (F) Squadron Association Secretary: Grp Capt BJ Titchen RAF(Retd), barry.titchen AT btinternet.com

Good luck with the book...:ok:

Try posting on the 72 Sqn Association website for info. They were there for several years in the 50's:ok:

Come along to the Gathering of Warbirds & Veterans at North Weald on Sunday 25 April. Roger Morewood of 56 Squadron flew from NW and is due to attend the event.

Norman Tebbit flew there.

There are quite a few references to it is his book 'Upwardly Mobile'

Cheap second hand copies on Amazon, there is also a fair bit in 'The Battle of Britain - Then and Now' (After the Battle)
