New LCC formed by AirAsia, VietJet Air in Vietnam Friday, February 12, 2010

AirAsia has purchased a 30% equity stake in VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company (VietJet Air).

The two companies now plan to establish a Vietnam-based joint venture low-cost carrier which will carry the name VietJet AirAsia.

AirAsia confirmed that the new airline VietJet AirAsia will operate both domestic and international flights.

“The birth of VietJet AirAsia contributes to the diversification of the aviation market in Vietnam, providing more options to meet the air travel needs of people in Vietnam and in the region,” VietJet said.

“The joint venture is a well-balanced combination of the management system, technical expertise, long-term experience in the airline industry, crew and international brand of AirAsia, and the financial strength, as well as Vietnamese market insights of VietJet Air.”

VietJet AirAsia makes Vietnam AirAsia’s fourth country base after Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

The new airline is still finalizing the details on routes, frequencies and launch of flights.

Looks like Jetstar getting some of its own medicine;)

This so called AK/3K "alliance" is just nothing but a joke. Love this statement from Davis..

Tiger Airways has branded the Jetstar and Air Asia alliance as “doomed” following yesterday’s announcement that Air Asia had bought a 30% stake in VietJet Aviation. “We think this is hilarious,” Tiger chief executive Tony Davis said. “Since Qantas and Air Asia announced their so-called alliance, Jetstar has spent over $3 billion dollars on a completely different engine to Air Asia for their fleet of A320s and now Air Asia is taking on Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam.”

Vietjet has been in the mix for the past 5 or 6 years, but has not amounted to anything other than a pipe dream. Frankly, I wouldn't expect much to change that.

Regarding quotes from Tony Davis and that band of homo losers that he calls management...

Tony Davis is tied for top place among the most retched airline managers on the plant; right next to that Irish POS! The only person blowing more up Tony Davis's arse than he does, is his bloodly boyfriend!
