Can anyone help me with some info on plane spotting in Vanuatu? Does anyone know of any vantage points at Port Vila? Also are there other airfields around the Island worth visiting?

Thanks :)

This is a good vantage point to do some spotting. The Aero Club used to run a 206 up to the Ambrym volcano and land on the ashplain, but haven't been there for a few years to know if they still do. See that the floatplane and helicopter tourist flights have been for sale, so maybe they aren't travelling so well. Over 25 strips on other islands that get serviced regularly , and all good for a visit to experience the difference to N.Z.
Would need to organise it ahead tho.. for places to stay.

If you go down to the beach at Hide-away Island (15 mins from Port Vila) sometimes the jets will fly that NDB approach to circle rwy 11 and pass right overhead at around 500-600ft as they they turn short final. The BA NDB is next to the pub there.

Have seen locals on a couple of occasions on small roads quite close to the runway on the northern side, talking to the tower probably your best bet to get access.

The terminal has a reasonable viewing platform looking out over the apron.

The Maule float-plane no longer operating, its parked on the grass at the airport :{

There are two or three lighties at the airport also not sure if you could hire or joyride around the Island tho.
