My family and I are taking UA to IAD and on to MCO Friday out of Frankfurt and I was wondering what we could expect.

A very average product, generally presented by c/c that have gone way beyond their "best before" date :}

Whenever I fly United on US internals, I upgrade to "economy plus" which gives a bit more leg room and usually for about $30.00.

On a 777 flight from IAD - DEN that put me in a business class seating area with bigger seats but on a 320 from DEN - LGA I just got an economy seat with six inches more legroom.

Don't know if it's available on longer haul but it gets me a bit more space without paying loadsamoney for a load of extra food and drink I don't really want.

I quite like United .. the cabin and the flight attendants remind me of my days going to school on London busses.

Flew business with UA a few years back on a B777 SFO-LHR I can state it was the worst business class flight I have ever undertaken started of badly when the charged me for a beer in the business lounge from there it just got worse.

Hopefully you're on UA953 as this is serviced by 767's with the new business class which is, IMHO, an excellent product.

You'll enjoy large AVOD screens, comfortable, very wide, fully flat seats plus you can choose to a row which faces backwards which is weird on take off and landing. I've only been on UA flights with happy, engaging crew, maybe I'm lucky though....

The 777's service the other 2 flights of the day. They still have the old business class cradle seats which are perfectly adequate, IMHO, for the westbound flight but hopefully your booked onto a 767 for the return! They have smaller screens but more storage space (the 767 seats have zero storage around you, everything has to go in the overheads so prepare yourself appropriately).

Enjoy!

Certainly not unique to UA - but shame the UA average age of the B767 is what - 14 -15 years old no?

Was recently on 767 (cattle class) poor. The Business Class section was probably the upgraded as referred - looked not too bad.

Flew UA from London to Los Angeles and then, later, LA to Hawaii a few years ago. After Air New Zealand they were the best flights we ever had. Brilliant crews all round. I've also had some great and some stupendously awful trips with BA. Nothing, but nothing, beat ANZ where the hostie in their "World Traveller +" cabin hugged and kissed my wife and I as we left. Luck of the draw I guess.

Made it back after some interesting re booking on the Friday due snow bound IAD!! Ended up with LH A340 FRA-IAD. CC were great and made for an enjoyable trip. But...they ran out of the preferred menu option :( Seats are old style and not really that comfortable for the 13 hour ride. Very efficient though. Avoid row 10!

UA on the way back - 757 MCO-IAD, great aircraft, great seats for the distance. Friendly CC.

The 767 was a different story - most likely the unfriendliest CC I have ever encountered. Meals were plonked on the trays and then removed if you placed the cutlery on the plate to grab your drink! Excuse me I haven't finished yet, well why is your cutlery on the tray! I mean - really!! Whilst the seats were good I found looking backwards a little odd and the width of the seats is not ideal.

But the bags all arrived and with no damage and they did get us from A to B to C in the allotted time. was it value for money - I do not think so.
