does anyone know if it is possible to commute from ballina for a sydney 737 base, would the rosters allow it, and what would it cost with staff travel?

Impossible.
You would have better luck commuting for a BNE base. The amount of flights between Sydney is small and what happens if you have a late finish or a 8am sign-on?
