Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone would care to reveal any good job search sites. I use AFAP (as does the entire pilot population) and seek. Ive spent hours searching for others that might be useful,but came up with nothing suitable. Anyone know any charter/flight schools gearing up to hire? Im only a low time junior pilot but have current experience working in commercial ops.

I was also curious to know if anyone whose had experience in employing, would care to review my resume and offer any tips. I've read lots of advice on various sites, but i still feel its missing something thats going to make me stand out. Im only a youngin so not much experience with resumes:\

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Keep resumme simple 1 or 2 pages depending on how much you've done

Know one cares about your career in scouts or that you topped your yr 8 maths class

They also dot care the amount of hour you have in a warrior or technam or whatever only things bigger than a 182.

Also don't start with, I am ethusiastic and keen to learn (everyone is). mention if you want to be a career instructor or you want to gain epearience in a certain area stuff like that.

Follow these headings

name and contact
- dont have an email [email protected]
- something like [email protected] looks better
- when job hunting and travelling around works to use parents addess so they can check mail for you

Flying Summary
- hours
* Total time
* Command
* Multi/Multi command
* Sigificant A/c time e.g Cessa 206 not cessna 152 and warrior

- endorsements
*Aircraft
* retract, tail wheel ect... they know you have a CSU if you have a CPL

- Ratings
*Night
*Instrument

-courses
* DG
* CRM

Experience
- Any employers you have had relevent to aviation
- If you havent got any put your current job

Education
- HSC or School certificate or Uni degree whatever is your highest
- Tafe courses relevent

References
- start with CFI
- People of signifiance that hae seen you fly no just some captain that you know

you just need to buckle down and get it done and out there we all start with little to nothing on our CV's . It does come with time

yeh but surely you hae your School certificate.... ad what did you do your CPL in, has to be a CSU doesn't it?

Did you do a night rating?

I see so many resumes just filled with pointless stuff because people feel they are in adequate, dont worry some operators like good honest people thy can take advantage of :}

its all about timing.... that one guy you help push his ac oer to the bowser could be the CP who is peed off he had to fly the 210 as he is short on pilots... ot all bosses where 4 gold bars

A little improvement in grammar and spelling may make a difference in getting you over the line. Have a look back over your posts and think how that would look to a potential employer. This is meant only in a constructive manner.

Don't forget to include your myspace and facebook pages.

This topic (CV's, resume's, etc) comes up every few months.

There is so much advice out there already, all you're going to get here is more of the same.

The same rules that applied to aviation CV's five years ago still apply. :ok:

Keep it simple.

Don't bull****.

Use the spellchecker.

DIVOSH!

I'm confused, you have a CPL but the biggest plane you've flown is a 172?

Also you have your first job and you have "nothing" to stand out... You're up against people who have never worked in aviation. What kind of job are you after?

To answer your first question, there is no magic site to find work. Not many companies advertise vacancies unless they're desperate.

Finally if your english isn't great take time to spell check (even on here) and get your mum to go over the spelling and grammar.

There are 172s around with CSUs and cruise speeds of 120... maybe he did his CPL in one of those?

Always wondered about this... whether its worth putting down say the CFI or ATO you did you CPL test with and/or the instructor you would've flown with while finishing your CPL (lets say for a fresh CPL)... reason I ask is because a lot of students tend to end up as 'mates' with their instructors so would it be fair to expect most to give an honest opinion / description of their student and their abilities?

Make sure you attach a photo of yourself with one arm haning off the prop and a big smile on your face.

Seems to be the go these days....:D

Opinion of the CP I asked about it was "don't put people you paid on your resume....they're paid to blow smoke up your arse".
Me? I'd put people well known in the industry who can give an honest opinion of my personality and flying ability.

I disagree with that I've always put my CP CFI and last instructor down. Who knows your flying better than the last guy to do your training?

Well if you don't like it, perhaps a career change is in order.

Passport photo, no stupid crap of you with a headset and three bars doing an epic cockpit lookback. There IS a facebook group dedicated to those. I may or may not have contributed :)

Don't just drop in, ring (I always have), to see if you can make an appointment or just a time when you can have a quick chin wag with the CP. And for God's sake dress up. Even if it's 40 degrees, wear a tie. First Impressions and all that.

If they don't want to meet you (Probably cos they have enough pilots for the time being), thank them for their time and keep trying. Personally I would Print and mail or deliver a Resume over email, as it takes more of an effort to open and then throw out a resume vs deleting it from the inbox.

And sorry if it was intended as a joke SK and soseg.

Hey there, I'm new to the site.

Would you be interested in a free video tutorial on how to create a winning pilot resume based on seeing thousands of them across various Cheif Pilot's desks?

Some go in the trash can and some go in the file cabinet and only a few go in the "call this guy" box.

Id be happy to direct you to video if you're interested.

Hey mate try pastoral companies or parachute ops. Often a good place to start looking.

Jobs often advertised in country life or outback magazine.

PUT PHOTOS ON A RESUME??

if Skinny/Lightweight = Yes
if Otherwise = No

less pilot weight = more pax weight
and operators usually can't ask for same.

The weight thing is sad but true.

If you're over 90kgs when there are heaps of 'lighter' folk around the odds are against you.

They always allow 90kg for the Pilot and accept a little over the max weight, if you are over 90kgs instead of being 10 or 20kg over you end up being 30-50 over which is pushing it.

Don't whinge about flying over weight, if you have flown up north or flown a 150 with two average guys and more than 40L of fuel it's a fact of life.

Doesn't stop some.

2nd question i was aked by CP when he rang me about resume i sent him.

"How much do you weight?"

"90kg"

"Too much"

1st question was

"You're not married are you?"

"No" (neglected to mention that i had got engagged):)

Struck me as strange when i was asked knowing that they are not really allowed to ask that sort of stuff, although the said CP had a reputation for being fairly blunt and not exactly "politically correct." Didn't turn out to be an entirely bad boss.

Still got the job though:ok:
