What is the best way to carry mountain bikes on a helicopter, are there any approved bike racks on the market?
Or perhaps is it mostly done externally? Any pictures are appreciated
:ok:

Use a large enough helicopter?

This quite common in Canada in the summer months. Most do it via a net slung underneath.

Um... lifting...

I did some STC approval flights for a dual bike rack on an AS-350 several years ago. Fastest ever for a mountain bike - 140KIAS or so...

The "keep it simple" is usually the best way, but I saw pictures from NZ of some rack that was strapped on top of the skids on AS-350 and thought maybe someone was making approved racks but then again that was probably just some home-made rack and that will surely not work in the lovely world of EASA regulations so I think underslung is the only "right" way to do it.
SWAGMAN Bike Racks (http://www.swagman.net/product_platformracks_xtc4.php)
this could be the solution to do it and sling the whole thing

I'll see if I can find some suitable photos.
And figure out how to upload them.

And here's the other one. Quite clever design to hold the bikes in place at Vne.
