Just been watching the news about the Earthrace boat being rammed down in the Antarctic and thought I would post these couple of pics I shot not long ago when we were down on the south coast of England. We did a winching evolution down onto the deck of Earthrace after we found it in the bay on the way back from a photo shoot. Peter Bethune was very accomodating and its not every day the guys get to winch onto this type of boat.

So yes it has got a link to helicopters :ok:

Not just rammed ............. SUNK.

ANTI-whaling group Sea Shepherd have confirmed one of their protest ships was sunk by Japanese whalers. The Ady Gil, a lightweight 24m (79-foot) boat went under after being rammed off Antarctica by Shonam Maru, a ship detailed to provide security to the rest of the whaling fleet.
All six crew members have been rescued.
"Our priority is making sure the crew are safe," a Sea Shepherd spokesman told NewsCore.
The ship is one of three Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessels battling Japanese whalers in the Southern Ocean.

Just one question ( not heli related sorry ) , how can a boat that size be carbon neutral ?It burns over a gallon of biofuel per KM at cruise speed.

Earthrace (http://www.earthrace.net/index.php?section=18)

I would guess at 6 KT it may be overtaken by one of those gas guzzling sail boats :)
