Does anyone know why Tower Rd at BK is closed btn Syd Skydive and Rabaul Rd, or for how long? Signs don't explain it and a seach on here turned up nout.
Cheers.

Hah! I was about to post the same question, having had to go round, just this morning.
Apparently, it's been closed since Christmas.
I, too, would appreciate any information, as it's a long way round to the coffee shop.
Thanks heaps,
GWAS

It was open on Wednesday when I was last there. Is the coffee shop open? The signs say closed from Jan 1st, but give no explanation.

This thread is a bit like the Darwin Staff car park thread!

if you ask me i think they may be extending the runway, under their contract with the council, any construction work under 15 million does not require approval by council!!!
i think the bankstown aerodrome operators are up to something..

Possibly for a rwy extension... :suspect:
Another possibility is to stop the amount of non aviation related traffic using the road as a short cut/bypass for Henry Lawson Drive during peak hour. Add a few hoons that treat it like a race track and BAL said enough is enough!
As a private road the RTA provides no funding for it's maintenance either.
My bet is it will not reopen ;)

I have heard the same from the horse's mouth.
No funding from the RTA:sad:

I can understand it being used as shortcut or as a bypass, but with the all of the speedbumps and curves how the heck could it be used as a 'racetrack'.

Think you might be on to something QNH...

Ok, maybe not a racetrack, but I've heard first hand that BAL was nervous about the blind corners at Sydney Skydivers and near the Control Tower. There have been a few close calls!
Now that the road is closed the number of people using Tower Rd on the Southern side has drastically reduced.

i too dispise the closing or tower rd.
It pisses me off that a building has been built on the end of 11L.
its very dangerous.
Anyways the road is now open on a trai/temp basis
