Hi all,

I work for a UK airline with interline agreements with most airlines. I can get standby on EK, but is it possible to get a discounted EK confirmed seat? Touchdown (a UK interline travel agent) provide heavily discounted confirmed seats from the UK, but I'd like to make my own way to Dubai and then have a confirmed seat to Male on my honeymoon. Is there an equivalent of touchdown in Dubai, or can EK employees get Hotline / Friends & family tickets? Any help / advice greatly appreciated.

short answer - no
long answer - no, not really.

Remember in the world of 'id' and zed travel 'standby' =you are off until you are on. 'Confirmed'= you are on until you are off.
My strong advice combining the two words 'Male' and 'honeymoon' is buy the cheapest commercial ticket you can find. An unamed airline in the region once messed up a party of 3 dozen honeymooners in that direction and they all had to spend their night of nuptial bliss in the Gulf waiting for the earth to move.
Capacity to Male is limited and you don't want to start married life on the wrong foot, or you will never hear the end of it.

Oh, and congratulations on the engagement ;)

Hi, Oman Air (WY) also has several weekly frequencies to MLE from its Muscat (MCT) hub.
www. omanair.aero
during the christmas and school holiday season all classes wer pretty full (even overbooked), but that should be slowing down a little bit now.

And a tip: don't bring any alcohol to the Maldives. They will take everything away from you (but return it to you on your way out).
If you are planning to do any diving or snorkeling, bring as much of your own stuff as possible. Rental of equipment is expensive (around US$ 20 - 25 for mask/snorkel/fins) and buying items even more so (a mask and snorkel that costs US$ 30 at home, will cost you US$ 125 on the islands)
