I assume the airport safety officer is having the day off on Christmas, so how would an itinerant pilot and pax get from airside to landside?

Wear a turban, and carry a nail file.

Moorabbin is a friendly place for visitors.
MAC does not offer a 24 hr presence on airport by company personnel and is prohibited from displaying access codes that can be compromised. Visiting pilots will not have a Moorabbin-specific access card, but by definition have a right of access to the airport, and more importantly a need to be able to get back airside to their plane. Four of the pedestrian gates (denoted by (*) ) have a dedicated Air Access control system for visiting pilots. Details of use of this system are posted at the gate concerned. Return is ONLY possible through the gate you originally registered at. More info here. (http://www.moorabbinairport.com.au/)

Horses arse of a set up at MB.
Best bet is to register two or three cards on the way out to make sure you can get back in.

Just use your fly buys card or something with a magnetic strip.

You can't get back in after 24 hours after exit on same card.

During open hours the gate next to MFS is always unlocked, just waltz on through like everyone else does.

Thank you djpil and VH-XXX, that's brilliant. Bit of a last minute idea to go by plane, so thanks for the last minute helpful info!
