I was given only 7 days leave for next year.
That was non-peak.

So we either have no holidays outside of Dubai or the kids will miss 42 days of school during the year.

They just keep giving it and we keep taking it.:yuk:

Talking about leave, according to the final leave bidding FCI, we can bid up to 30 days leave next year, not the contracted 42!

Looks like the fxxkwits have enacted the policy mooted last year, when they slipped out the letter quoting that under UAE labour laws we are only quaranted 30 days and anything above that was at the company's discreton!

Wonder how I'll be taking leave next year? My middle finger extended then inverted to press 2!

I think you will find that the 30 days is a min and you must get/bid for that much or they will allocate leave at this early stage and not ait for the matrix in the manual to kick in.
I also think that the 30 days is our "official "leave and the other 12 are for the public hols.
I got 21 peak (second Choice) and 11 non-peak (first choice) and the system shows 10 still avail. Will be interesting to see what happens in Jan.

The rules are they attempt to give peak leave every 2nd year.

I got none last year, three weeks exactley when asked for this year, so by the book in my case.

How many who didn't get peak leave this year did last year?

Missed out on peak leave altogether last year,
Reserve last December (08),
Reserve next December (10).

So what did I get: -

SQUAT!! :}:ugh::eek:

And then they tell me, "choose or have em allocated!"
Contemplating all sorts of 'stress relieving remedies at the moment'

As Dr Smith once stated..."Oh the pain..."

I have a sneaky suspicion the same people complaining about leave will be the same as those complaining about rosters.
It comes down to how you bid.
The more specific you are the less satisfaction you are likely to receive.
Enough said.

Excellent reply vbrules!

BTW, bidded for any 2 weeks in JUL / AUG and then 1 week in Feb for skiing and got exactly that! Needless to say that limiting peak leave to 2 weeks helps as well.

Got what I asked for.
The people that expect peak every year just dont understand the system. If you have not had peak and still dont get it then you have a case.

Every year I get peak leave, this year included.
It alternates between the 3 peak periods. You can't expect to get Christmas off every year thru leave, although you can expect to get it thru days off in the top two bidding groups. If you're not getting it off then you need to see the bid support group.

I didn't gat any peak leave... and I wasn't specific. I asked for a range of dates for all peak times available and got squat!!!

Was offered non-peak leave only... Wow. Thanks guys. Should be an interesting year in the desert.

Every single pilot who bids for peak leave, contingent upon his prior allocation, should receive it. I can't believe that some people are actually gloating how they got peak leave and according to WhiteKnight, he also got it this year and finds pleasure in calling the rest of us ''girls''. Then again he's a big GWB supporter and proud that he helped elect him..... TWICE. Mind-boggling to say the least.

Anyhow, two things should be obvious from this thread.
1- some pilots at EK don't give a rats ass about other pilots as long as they themselves feel they have benefited.
2- EK does not employ enough pilots required to fill the roster and allocate Leave according to their own rules!

I mean really.... what is the deal with only ensuring 30 days Leave, when 42 days are mandated? The average office dweeb gets more vacation than the average PILOT! That is just messed up, especially considering our schedules.

By the way, it used to be guaranteed that pilots either got the Christmas leave period or the Easter leave period or the summer leave period. But now that the bar has been set so low, it seems that some of us are wallowing in other's misfortunes (eg. WhiteKnight), or we are grateful to get even ONE peak period a year.

And this is from a guy who got EXACTLY what he bid for this year...... yet I find no pleasure in seeing my colleagues struggle to keep their family lives in order because EK is notorious for not fulfilling THEIR end of the bargain.

Mensa - you need to lighten up:{ Some years I haven't had peak leave but I didn't come to these forums and cry about like the usual whingers do - so like I said "lighten up girls"
Besides I don't think you're the one to give advice in social skills - after all it wasn't long ago that you were on these boards threatening to kill Ed and his family and all of the 'colleagues' that you're so warmly 'one with' were telling you not to be an idiot:rolleyes:

What makes you think I'm a Yank? I've had nothing to do with your mate GWB, not sure why you bring this up:confused: Although rather him than the current fool that's sitting in the White House:E:E

Moot. It's called a "moot" point. "Mute" is what we employees are when it comes to a grievance.

White Knight is just as likely bragging about something he didn't get. You should never automatically believe a word people say about anything on this forum. Some people would rather make things up than admit they were screwed - again. He's probably a retiree.

Watch carefully next year. If you have leave days owing after the final bid you may well see them insert 4 days of leave in a month where you still fly 85+ hours. My guess is they will produce a roster, look through it and then take a guy with 12 days off on his sked down to 8 while replacing the four 'off' days with LEAVE days. This way they get rid of leave at no cost.

PorkKnuckle
23rd Dec 2009, 06:38
That's been their goal ever since they removed the credit value for leave days, years ago.

There are ways around it.

Porkknuckle - I'm not bragging if you re read my posts!! I'm having a bit of fun but then you'd need a sense of humour to see that:hmm:

Personally I don't give a rats bollocks when I get leave - if it's not peak I just take my kids out of school anyway.. Not like they miss anything anyway - what with ramadan, eid and every other holiday:}

But yep - I got the leave that I stated in my first post on the thread.. Give me a call, I'll even show you my roster/leave allocation!! Don't be shy - most people seem to know who I am:ok:

Got a grand total of 30 days leave for the next leave year, not my contracted 42 days!

And then of course they rub it in, stating in their lovely newsletter, if you didn't get your contracted leave, please bid for more!

Well I looked and there are no free slots available, you bXXstards! how am I able to bid for it!:mad::mad:

Kennedy I'M in the same position. Now some crew scheduler will decide when you will take the rest of your leave. When you will be max out on hours they will give you 4 days if you are lucky. They have crossed the line . Forget it you won't get those vacations. An other breach like so many others. No respect, no work ethics... up to you to return the favor. It's downhill big time around here.

easy enough, if the scheduling wizards do not cooperate, just call in sick and schedule your own leave when it is convenient for you.... problem solved

I was awarded Peak Leave last year, which was great. Not great this year, only one non peak award for 6 days. The remaining 24 days was allocated where it suited the Company. Leave Planner response to my email:

"Due to limited slots and availability your only one leave request was confirmed".

I don't get wound up too much, but only 6 days for the year, when I want it!!! That really winds me up.

I did not get any primary leave. At first instance I got 2 non peak period of a total of 16 days.
At the second bid time I requested 14 days. I did not get them but in the mean time they assigned me 14 days in a period absolutely useless!!!!!!!!
Is that allowed???

Well, in all honesty and without biasing against EK, I have heard of not one person with more than 30 allocated leave days. If anyone knows of a colleague who has, let us know.

The situation until at least September for criple 7 crews is desperate. It would not surprise me, therefore, if there has been a reduction in summer leave slots too to cope with this pilot requirement. Of course, we'll never know as they never tell us the numbers.

I did read between the lines of ED's usual crap and noted how he didn't use any percentage figure for how many actually received 42 days allocated leave. He did last year! I use the word crap because it's bloody insulting when he feels 'they' have achieved the target of providing us with 30 days. The target ED should be 42. That's because 42 days is the number of days leave we, as pilots, are entitled to. That IS in our contract. 30 is the minimum you numpty! Jeeze, If we based our own standards on that of our 'managers', the bastards would be firing around twenty of us every single day.

When you've not received a pay rise or a profit share, like all the other group employees, that may be acceptable if times are tough. However, to also lose 3%, have your productivity increase by 14% and have almost 2 weeks deferred off your leave, that's taking the proverbial. If there is no pay increase on the table this year, the senior managers will have seriously misread the feelings of their 'valuable staff'.

Things could get very ugly indeed! :*

I have emailed my fleet manager and leave planning. Only response was that no leave slots are available but I should bid for dates on hold and check to see what happens. Gotta to say I am not happy.

I got my full 42 days and have had every year since I joined. However, I don't have any school age children so I try to avoid the school holidays and I am very flexible about the dates. You are much more likely to get leave if you say you will take any 14 days in (say) September rather than give a specific start and finish date. I do it this way because I don't believe a lot of the carried forward leave will ever be awarded, there is simply too much of it piling up now.

The leave system is clearly broken, either because of inept management or a chronic lack of pilots. Or, most likely, both.:ugh:

As an outsider, I am trying to get the picture. Peak, Non peak, Allocated, Awarded.
Worst case scenario, and in general
777 pilots
How many off days in DXB per month?
How many consecutive per month.
How many blocks of leave per year.
Bottom line, right now how often can you go and spend few days in Europe if you leave your family there?
One more thing.
If you decide to leave at once and not respect the 3month notice is there a penalty?
If you are bonded when can you leave and break even (not pay anything, using end of service benefits) at the earliest?

BigGeordie
4th Feb 2010, 16:56
If you are planning on commuting from Europe, forget it. You will end up with between 2 and 4 blocks of leave per year which you might be able to extend with a few days off but that is a very big might. Only one of those blocks will be "peak leave", meaning Summer, Christmas/New Year and Easter.

In a normal month you will get about 10 days off but are unlikely to get more than 3 in a row.

It has been said many times before, commuting at Emirates is impossible and becoming more so. The company wants you in Dubai.
