In case PPruners are not aware December 17 is the 60th anniversary of the opening of Moorabbin Airport.

Moorabbin was a new airport built after WWII. Most of the area that it covers now was market gardens when built. The hangars are ex WWII military.
There are a few stories regarding the first landings. One was of a Bristol 170 Freighter that lost an engine and was looking for a place to land at. The other was regarding a CAC Wacket Trainer that landed at Moorabbin before the official opening. The Authorities did not approve and action followed.

Anuone got any good stories of companies, pilots, events etc from years gone by at Moorabbin?

The floor is open.

Might be an idea to give fliers to all the new residents complaining there is an airport nearby they had no idea was there.

As a youngster, my brothers and I rode our bikes out to Morabbin to look at the Bristol Freighter. In those days MB was all over grass, and the Bristol was parked near the northern boundary
