Can anyone clear up exactly how many hours training on instruments you need on a CPL modular course with an IMC? I have heard 5, 10, and everything in between. LASORS is vague. someone I know sent their form away with 5 hours 30 mins on it, and got their licence.

I had an IMC when I started my CPL, there is no reduction in hours for the instrument part of the course which is 10 of the 25 minimum.

The 5 hours 30 your friend had was most probably the actual time spent flying under simulated (or real) imc, which is not the same as instruction on instrument flying.

Yes - your a future Commercial pilot so you can read LASORS (http://www.caa.co.uk/lasors)section D1.2(d) which states no credit for an IMC on the CPL

Dane-Ger: so does that mean as far as hours go, that 5 hours 30 was ok for the flying part, and the rest was ground instruction?
