Anyone see the F-11 over Brisbane today?

About 0945 ish, flew over my place at Tingalpa, heading towards the city. Scared the crap out of me.

Couldn't of been higher than 700ft, absolutely hauling a$%!

Hard to guess speed, but the wings were right back, and he was really moving.

Any special occasion on today?

hehehhehe.......... yep I was outside and heard it... but did not see it!

Thats how they like to be treated...... heard and not seen ....... till after they bombed ya!

I wonder if one of my mates at BNE APP can shed some light..... Maybe the ATC folk said something like "XXX maintain best speed" to which the readback was "XXX Best speed - You betcha!! :}"

Proclamation Day in QLD.

150 years since QLD achieved statehood and left what is still a basket case, NSW.:D

Happy Proclamation Day Queensland:D

By the way Jaba, I once heard an exchange between BN Centre and an F-111 that went something like this:
BN CEN : "Buckshot 44, maintain best speed"

Buckshot 44 : "I'm not sure you really mean that so how about I maintain 600 knots and save us both the glass bill."

BN CEN : " OK, Buckshot 44, maintain 600 knots"

'Twere a while ago and the words may not be verbatim, but I remember smiling at the pilot's laconic reply.

Rumour has it that an F-111 accidentally left its transponder on when doing a high speed run on the deck out over the ocean near Brisbane many years ago.
Clocked at M 1.44, does that sound feasible?

You bl**dy Queenslanders have all the fun....

They leave them on all the time going fast. While I don't know the exact spec, from observation TAAAAAAATS and the previous IRDS dropped ground speed readings in excess if 1200(?) knots and the track symbol goes into a 'coast' mode. ATC radar does not display Mach number due to obvious reasons of calculating it. Based on that at sea level it could track up to around Mach 1.8 or so at sea level assuming the aircraft could do it. They do it east of the coast in various places.
