Furthermore, it did it without me giving the okay.:=

The siren blasted and the warning came on the screen. Positive ID of that program. I wanted a moment to confirm what was going on, so I shut Avast down without any action. P-F was as dead as a dead thing. The exe file looks okay, but will not run, even from the folder.

Any other sinister reports of this natty little program?

EDIT: I suppose it might have been got at prior to the warning, and just not run anyway. But trying to open PF just gives the same MS warning that it "Can't access the file, or it may have been moved." whereas first time it seemed to be starting.

EDIT II: I deleted the contents of PF folder and copied the original download into a newly created PF folder. The second I tried to reinstall it, the Trojan Horse warning came up again. Avast would only accept me Deleting. Nothing else would satisfy it. So, no PhotoFiltre for the time being.

Have you reported it to Alwil? Have you run MBAM or a.n.other on the install files?

Loose Rivets, as a temporary measure, you might consider adding the PF folder to the list of exclusions in Avast.

Double click the Avast icon (the one with the "a" on it)
Click "Details...>>>"
Select "Standard Sheild" on the left
Click "Customize..."
Select the "Advanced" tab
Click "Add"

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Avast did the same on S&D Spybot and Faststone - a temporary fix is to right-click on Avast, select Stop Provider --> Standard Shield (as an alternative to adding each individual app to the list)

Didn't have time to look into it further but it will probably result in Avast coming off in favour of Nod32 or similar.

I've just downloaded and installed PhotoFiltre and no problems at all from avast, I did noticed that it wanted to change home page etc, if that was not unticked it could trigger an alert.

There has been a major rash of serious FP's from Avast today.
Updating to the latest VPS database fixes the problem.

This is now fixed. It was extremely serious. More info here (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=51647.0).

Anyone who has had programs quarantined or not working as a result is advised to rescan each infected file from within the virus chest, and if it scans clean, to restore it.

Some people have lost their OS over this one, I'm afraid. Usually those who responded with an "OK" to a boot scan prompt, or those that deleted rather than quarantining files. In either case, important files required to boot the system have been deleted or quarantined. The chest can't be accessed unless Windows is up and running.

I was lucky! I use Avast on both machines, as do a load of friends on my recommendation. Hopefully they were all abed while the dud file was around.
