I couldn't find anything in search mode and it's exhausting pedaling my bicycle generator. Besides, the Commodore 64 keeps crashing.

Can I get an ATT Iphone and tether it to a G5 and only pay for the Iphone internet. How well does this work? Issues?

The salesman I spoke to didn't make this very clear. Thanks for any answers, I'm not real swift in the technology (or digestion) department!:ugh:

Yes, the iPhone just becomes a modem to the computer (not a phone) so it allows you to connect to the internet and use it like any other modem.

Not sure how it works on ATT but it works for sure on O2UK.

There's one catch.

On the O2 UK deal, you can use the iPhone on 3G "direct" and browse to your heart's content. However, if you want to "tether" it to your laptop etc, you have to buy a tethering add-on at a very exorbitant price. I suspect the same restrictions apply elsewhere - I've not checked.

If you "jailbreak" your iPhone, that restriction goes away, as do several others. Most usefully, the car charger for your iPod (or any of those other chargers) will work with the iPhone. Non-jailbroken iPhones are very sniffy about which chargers they will allow to provide them with volts.

I think this link has pointers to the info for using a normal (non jailbroken) iPhone for tethering.

Enable tethering on iPhone 3.0 - Too easy... (WORLDWIDE carriers) | richardlai on Xanga (http://richardlai.xanga.com/704930537/enable-tethering-on-iphone-30---too-easy-worldwide-carriers/)

And the rate for using an iPhone as a 3G modem is about £15 a month on O2 - and I think it's the ONLY phone with that restriction.
