Request normal final approach speed, threshold speed, and lift off speed for the RAAF Mirage fighters. Also best gliding speed with engine failure.

According to a friend who flew them the best glide speed was supposed to be 300kts, giving an L/D of 1 in 6.

Don't remember the other speeds you asked for. Sorry.

From this thread....

15k/270KIAS (best glide) over the runway on a 30° intercept onto DW (no 45° outside joins here Dick :ugh:), then pull the nose up to reduce speed and gear down. 10k abeam the threshold, half way round base 5k/190KIAS, aim 1500ft short of runway and a nice gentle flare to touchdown on the 300m markers...if my memory serves me correctly.http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/thumbs.gif

1. 190 KIAS
2. 175 KIAS
3. 165-185 KIAS (depending on weight and external stores)
4. 300 KIAS (clean), reduce to 240 KIAS during gear extension, back to 270 KIAS once gear down and locked.
5. Flame-out landing...initiate flare at 1500 ft at 270 KIAS...touch down at 160 KIAS.
