Sadly, I think there were 5 fatalities--memories of RAF Pisa crash so many years ago--sincere thoughts to all the loved ones.

DefenseNews: Italian C-130J Crashes During Training Flight (http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=4389226&c=EUR&s=AIR)

ROME - An Italian Air Force C-130J crashed during a training flight in Italy today, killing all five crew members aboard.

The aircraft crashed onto train tracks and burst into flames near Pisa military airport, setting electrical wires on fire. The aircraft was based at Pisa, one of 22 C130Js flown by the Italian Air Force's 46th Air Brigade.

The aircraft crashed as it was regaining altitude after making a practice approach to the airport's runway, the Air Force said in a statement.

A spokesman said the cause of the crash was under investigation. A conference on Air Power scheduled to be held by the Italian Air Force in Florence on Nov. 26 and 27 has been postponed due to the incident, the Air Force said.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with the Italian C-130 guys when they came to Lyneham a couple of years ago.

Thoughts and prayers as usual don't seem much at the moment, but they're all I have to offer.

RIP.

The C130J crashes just after Take Off killing 5, contradictory the versions between the eyewitnesses. Some are saying that the C130 was already on fire during the take off roll others saying that it started to roll to the left before diving in flight.

From the flightglobal link:

Another source says an EasyJet Airbus A319 was circling Pisa airport while the C-130J climbed

Errrrrrr, so what is the relevance of that statement?

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Granite; I think the A319 reference is to suggest that that's where some of the eyewitnesses saw the incident from.
