North Sea flying

I think I know the answer but thought I'd better check anyway:

Apart from being a pilot or on Jigsaw there is no other way to fly in the North Sea?

Nothing such as Observers like you have in the RN?

I'm desperate to fly but the military won't have me and having difficulties trying to raise £100k!

You just want to fly over the North sea? You can do that with a ppl(h).

Observers are warfare officers who happen to have a desk in the back of an RN cab, so there's not much need for them in the peaceful world of the North Sea.

Why won't the military take you? Is there a message there?

Maybe if you want to fly in the north sea get a submarine

The likes of Highland Airways (who operate fisheries) have observers, ok you won't be in a helicopter, but you would get to fly low over the sea in a F406 which sounds good fun to me. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but the RVL Group operate coastguard duties out of Inverness, again in a F406 with an obeserver. You could try and contact these companies to enquire?

As for the north sea helicopter operators, as you said unless you are a pilot or work offshore, you are out of luck. I believe back in the day they did have stewards and stewardesses? Also around the time when there was a toilet onboard with a pull acorss curtain :yuk:
