My writer's group want to set up their own web site. My family, and indeed my home town forum in Essex both use Ning, but while it would serve to do some things, it doesn't really fulfill the criteria of a site.

Is there a cheap way to create a site as it really will have a very low hit-rate.

Hi LR

Take a look at Wix. Free and not half bad if your needs are straightforward.

Create a Free Website , Free Flash Website Builder at Wix.com (http://www.wix.com/)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question.

Why not just write it directly in HTML? I've done a simple site or two with the "knowledge" I obtained from the Sam's "Teach Yourself HTML....."

One of the advantages of this approach is that the result isn't burdened with loads of confusing stuff that many of the "authoring" systems produce.

I'll send you a PM.

Edited to add:
OpenOffice [OO] Writer is free and produces OK HTML. OO Writer can read .DOC files and can then be used to write them out as HTML, if you don't want to do the creation in OO itself.
