BIGBAD 4th November 2009, 14:02 more to follow at the end of the month from mainline and regional............
old-timer 4th November 2009, 14:25 That is bad news, good luck to all who are going, not a good time of year for it,
zerotohero 4th November 2009, 14:33 Is there ever a good time of year for it?
Storminnorm 4th November 2009, 14:41 Perhaps AFTER Christmas might be slightly better?
old-timer 4th November 2009, 14:59 Yes, that was my sentiment, there NEVER is a good time but just before Dec' is particularly bad, I'm in the same boat as my position will be made redundant at the end of Dec' , Happy Xmas ?
BYALPHAINDIA 4th November 2009, 16:04 Not looking good at all then at Baby!!
And Xmas - What a complete waste of time it is, ALWAYS has been ALWAYS will be.
Xmas is for the 'Nutmegs' in the world who are already drowning in their own debts, But insist on pumping their money into it!!
It's a shame they don't pump their money into this 'Ailing' Airline Industry!!
Xmas creates more problems than anything else!!
But we have to go along with it all every 12 months, Then it's quickly forgotten about a week later.
I hope the affected staff are ok and stay in the Industry.
TURIN 4th November 2009, 17:15 Xmas creates more problems than anything else!!
Yeeeeees. One of which is an awful lot of people and cargo/mail trying to get from A to B, often by air.
Good luck to all.
Is it just air crew that are affected or are groundstaff/engineering getting hit equally as hard?
Sam Crow 4th November 2009, 18:52 Sad day, good luck to all. Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that now we are supposed to be coming out of the recession the airlines are only now cutting staff to try and save money.
I thought all was well at baby, I heard their bookings were up for next summer and they were looking for more aircraft, seems the Germans have different ideas.
If they cut services from LHR for mainline who will get the slots? Will Lufthansa use them or will they be sold.
jumpjet7 4th November 2009, 20:02 Very sad news at Baby, especially before Christmas. Old economic wisdom said that the airline industry leads into recession and leads out. That could mean two things. Firstly our industry is in dire straits. Or secondly we,re still going into recession, a real possibility as our wonderful leaders say we're entering recovery.
My guess is a bit of both. A bumpy ride for a while I fear.
G-CPTN 4th November 2009, 21:05 History relates (check Japan) that unemployment lags any depression with unemployment continuing to rise after the recession is over (which it isn't, yet of course).
Firestorm 4th November 2009, 21:10 We were in a very similar situation about 12 months ago. I am thinking of all my ex-colleagues who are going through it all for a second time in 12 months. :ugh:
spotwind 4th November 2009, 21:50 Bad news. I feel sad for the hard working crews that once again have been led up this path by mis management.
I sometimes wonder how NT sleeps at night.
Good luck to all concerned.
Miss Management 4th November 2009, 22:25 The company's been in a mess for a long time.
The management are famous for being well below standard, this is their fault, big time.
The previous owner had cloudied the waters well enough for no one to see where the losses came from.
Then, his own sideways involvements have clearly drained the pot.
Now's the last chance saloon.
The new owners will give it a shot, albeit with a smaller size airline than a thimble.
It's gonna become a revolving s*itstorm for the next few months!
Even those that will stay will not be secure, as it needs a miracle management, but currently it has a bunch of idiots in place. :=
dontdoit 4th November 2009, 23:11 Fortunately, the new (if the stories round the bazaars are to be believed) owners' management team are considerably more able than the old lot.
skip.rat 4th November 2009, 23:23 ...............Couldn't be any bl**dy worse...................:yuk::mad:

Jn14:6 5th November 2009, 11:05 Nothing much has changed.
I was made redundant by Midland 29 years ago........the date.......December 26th!! (Boxing Day)
I did, however, receive a Christmas card from fleet management wishing me a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!!!
Best wishes to all those affected.
NutLoose 5th November 2009, 11:20 Sad days, but I always thought before Christmas would be prefered to after when you may well of spent a lot of money.
Pizza Express 5th November 2009, 12:19 1. Has BMI Baby ever made a profit?
2. Everyone has known for ages that these 5 aircraft would NOT have there lease renewed.
3. The company will be wound down over the next 2 years as the leases come up for renewal. The Germans dont want them and will wind it down in the cheapest way possible.
4. My advice to anyone working for Baby is to look for another place to work.
Miss Management 5th November 2009, 12:36 Pizza Express is absolutely right.
If the very next lease after these 5 is not renewed then unfasten your seatbelts and get the hell out!
Mind you, where to???? :ugh:
Gary Lager 5th November 2009, 12:40 My every sympathy for the crews affected. I hope things work out for them all.
About the timing, if there was chance you might lose your job, wouldn't you rather know before Xmas so you didn't max your credit card out? It won't make Xmas any easier for the families, but I hope they are now able to plan more practically for the uncertain times ahead.
average bloke 5th November 2009, 13:46 Having lost my job just before Christmas last year, I can from experience state this is the worst time possible. It is so frustrating to be chasing a new job when everyone else is winding down for Christmas and does not really want to know. All you hear is 'we'll be looking at that in January', and nothing really moves from the beginning of December until Jan 10th. I was lucky enough to land another job in January, but it made for a depressing Christmas. There is no good time to lose a job, but at least after Christmas means you can crack on with job hunting straight away.
Good luck to all involved.
merlinxx 5th November 2009, 14:38 Sorry to be a shite, but what more did you expect from Mistress Bishop:yuk:
My sincerest thoughts are with you folks at BM Mianline & Baby, I hope things DO have a positive outcome:ok:
Val d'Isere 5th November 2009, 15:01 Surprised this has taken so long. You could see it coming in.................2002.
Always the workforce that suffer. The owners, past or present, won't lose a wink of sleep or any dosh. Worthless money grabbers.
Mainline next. Get out while you can, if you can, but that's a big "if" at the moment.
bobsleigh 5th November 2009, 20:48 I was made redundant 31st Oct 2008 and in the meantime still haven`t:( found anything.
It `a b.............r.
