An Aviation Knowledge Information Booklet from Cathay??

Nope Cathayfan, and just out of curiosity..

Did CP mailed that to you by post Or its an e-booklet?

I got it as an attachment. Is this booklet for the stage one or for the first interview?

they don't do mails anymore, it's now a pdf

cathayfan, like said in the other post, it used to be sent after stage one, but then since they have sent it to you already, doesn't hurt finishing it before your stage 1, it's short and basic anyway. just think what your fellow applicants would do with it

I'm guessing it's a "crash course" on aviation. Probably to prep those with zero flight or ground experience. It covers:
Air Nav, Principles of flight, Met, Instruments, Engines and Systems.
I assume it is to help get people ready for the tech questions, so the embarrassment isn't as harsh as it has been in past interviews.

guys once again this book is very very basic, if you're keen enough for CPP and feel that you're ready to apply you should probably have covered way more than what is contained in this book. for instance one set of pdf files for PPL from the FAA website would give you a much better picture.

If you are an international applicant... that book attachment in the email, you will need to study that for your Stage 1... as you will write the Job Knowledge Test during your Stage 1 interview, along with all the other stuff for Stage 1a, minus all the handeye co-ordination stuff that you will need to do when you get invited to HK for Stage 2 (this Stage 1 interview is all done at the overseas interview location, the next one is Vancouver in end of Oct from what I read on another post).

If you are a local applicant, the book will be send to you by email after you have pass your stage 1 interview.

The Aviation knowledge booklet, only cover the topics that you will be tested on the in multiple choice Job Knowledge test, however if you just study the book, it is not enough to pass the test as the book barely explain how everything works. Hence, go do some homework and do some research on the web. Also, the interviewer might ask you technical questions that is involve in that aviation knowledge book, plus more, so if you want to pass the interview, do some work... Also in the Job Knowledge test, there used to be 5 CX company questions as well, donno have they taken that out or not.

as for your third paragraph, i can't agree more, it is unthinkable to think reading that book is enough. if you really want it, nothing's ever enough, you would go out and get all the info you can get, with and without asking

Actually the JKI booklet is for stage 2a, unless they have changed it now?
There’s 5 CX related questions which are not in the booklet like Peter has said, also out of the 5 you cant get more than 2 wrong otherwise even if you get everything right you still fail.
Also the book IS ENOUGH to pass the JKI multiple choice test as they don’t ask you anything outside of that, and depending on your luck/experience in aviation/aircraft etc. the book is definitely NOT enough to pass the Interview, my advise is just use the topics they have in the book and do more study on them, as the info in the booklet is pretty basic. If your lucky they wont ask much technical info, I know ppl who passed with over 80% of it being personal questions.

Could you please elaborate on the CX questions. This is what I am the most stressed about. Any insight would be awesome. There is only so much I can think of that might be asked on this portion.
I know the current fleet, engines, thrust
I have a good idea of their routes
I know their CEO, COO, Chairman
I know they're part of One World
I know their slogan.
I also know about the Swire Group.
I can find Hong Kong and Adelaide on a map.
