View Full Version : So when is the next GatBash? Supermattt 6th Oct 2009, 19:24 Hola, I had the pleasure of attending the 2006 I think it was one. When's the next one? Cheers Matt PPRuNe Pop 7th Oct 2009, 07:57 I remember you. I am afraid they are no longer possible as the numbers dropped and it couldn't be sustained. You will have to remind yourself how good they were with pictures. OzExpat 7th Oct 2009, 12:51 I was at that one as well and remember BOTH of you! :ok: :} Sadly, I never got my photos back... :{ PPRuNe Pop 8th Oct 2009, 07:32 Hiya mate. Hope you are well. Who did you give them to? PPP Flintstone 8th Oct 2009, 10:56 GatBash? Pfffft! I remember the Ash Bash when all around here were fields and you could get four blackjack chews fer a penny. PPRuNe Pop 8th Oct 2009, 13:52 I thought you said screws for a moment! := Flintstone 8th Oct 2009, 20:02 I was offered one of those at The Ash by a (now) ex-Prooner. Very generous with her affections that one. I hasten to add that I made my excuses and left :O PilotsPal 8th Oct 2009, 21:37 Aha! Another candidate for the unsolved mystery of the couple performing in the Ladies.... (I'm sure you did leave, but when?) Flintstone 8th Oct 2009, 21:46 Oh no, no, no. You're not pinning that one on me. Any chance I might have had went west the moment I burst out laughing. Right after she told me about her.....plans for me :\ OzExpat 9th Oct 2009, 08:47 Hi Pop! Yes thanks, as well as can be expected after many years of alcohol abuse, like the rest of the Bash mob! :} I gave them to a mutual mate with whom you went to the Emerald Isle last month. I wouldn't have been able to post the photos very quickly because, as you'll remember, I was leaving the UK quite soon after the GatBash and he did the right thing by posting them for me, from the SD card that I took from my camera. Flinstone maaate! Looks like we've both had our escapes from the same, errrm, personality. :ok: There's bound to be others, of course, but I feel sure that some blokes might not have been quite so lucky... Bond 19th Oct 2009, 19:23 Just out of idle curiosity, how many people would be interested, in attending a gatbash, if someone were to go to the effort of doing all of the organising? Would all interested parties please take one step forward, now, by posting a reply on this thread! :ok: Cheers, Bond. redsnail 19th Oct 2009, 19:57 Maybe, so long it was comparatively unstructured. That is, no table placements, no formal speeches and so on. Whirlygig 19th Oct 2009, 22:37 I'd be up for it as always :ok: Cheers Whirls ZFT 19th Oct 2009, 22:40 I'm sure I could get a kitchen pass merlinxx 28th Oct 2009, 13:58 Count me in:E:ok: mustafagander 29th Oct 2009, 09:22 I'm interested but I'll need a fairly long lead time with bidding and all. :ok: WALSue 31st Oct 2009, 09:06 Its a real shame they stopped, I only got to one (the last one) I only had a few hours under my belt then but it (and the seminar thingy) were very useful Chacha 31st Oct 2009, 10:25 Hi Whirleygig .... hope you are well! .. lols .... I loved that gatbash in 2006 ... was great ... Had a blast and blisters, had to change my shoes .... red snail gave me paper for my shoes ... lols ..... you should all come to edinburgh! ... x Radar66 1st Nov 2009, 00:30 Couldn't possibly attend. I'm respectably married now, and what is more, so is HE!! :p and, from all accounts, a gat bash wouldn't be a gat bash without a certain calibre of photographic evidence, no? Or even a degree of subtle lipstick application on yet another 'respectably married man', hmmm? I won't go into gluteus maximus tattoos and tartan minis.... :E OzExpat 1st Nov 2009, 06:00 I tend to agree with Reddo but suspect that the problem with organising a bash for 100-200 people necessarily involves booking a venue and some sort of musical accompaniment, not to mention food menus and booze. This is likely to require a certain amount being up front and having one or more people involved in all the arrangements. I know that I speak for many when I say that Pop has done a sterling job over the many years of successful bashes. I've only been able to attend one such bash - the last one - and had a great time. The best part of it was in catching up with people I normally only see once a year or so, as well as meeting many who I'd only ever known by their handles and/or reputations! :} I'm sure there's a place for bashes into the future, but think the format must change, though the planning and arrangements are likely to be much the same. Thus it comes down to a simple concept - who will take on such a task and put money up front, when necessary? ComJam 4th Nov 2009, 11:57 Hello all, I reckon Reddo's right, if it was a totally informal booze-up like the couple we had a few years ago in Edinburgh, we'd be up for it i'm sure. Not sure about Gatwick.....how about somewhere more central like er..Manchester :} airbourne 5th Nov 2009, 22:53 Ah the lovely Gatbash!!! Oh how I miss it......The Gatbash, where an Irish Rugby jersey will get you EVERYWHERE! :D Whirlybird 9th Nov 2009, 20:18 I went to all of them from the Ash Bash onwards...but I daresay I could manage one more. :ok: Rat Catcher 18th Nov 2009, 05:01 Having only managed to be in UK for one bash so far, always happy to try again...! When and where:E:E AIRWAY 19th Nov 2009, 08:10 Good old times. :ok: I attended one GatBash many years ago, made some great friends and met great people. After that went to another small bash with some English and Aussie legends they know who they are... :E:}:ok: I don't usualy drink but that day will be remember as the day I almost got drunk, but didn't and never did since...:oh: I still remember the effect of of mixing some beers with wine and ending the day drinking a saki (think spelt like that). :ok: Gainesy 22nd Nov 2009, 12:27 I have this vision of Prune Pop, gibbering quietly and retiring to a room with a large Scotch in one hand, and the Mess Webley in the other.:) PPRuNe Pop 22nd Nov 2009, 15:58 Gibbering??? Large Scotch and a Mess Webley - would that be a .38 - if so it was me. Otherwise I never did get drunk at ANY bash - ever. Not that I don't - mildly now and again but I had to keep law and order. :ok: OzExpat 23rd Nov 2009, 11:25 You just keep on keeping on AIRWAY. I can't imagine who might've been so fiendish as to try to get a young bloke like you drunk - especially on Saki! :} Here's a thought for you... I'm now at the stage where I keep saying "if I knew I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself"! ;) Throw away that .38 Pop, we all love you! :ok: Wholigan 24th Nov 2009, 21:05 Otherwise I never did get drunk at ANY bash I absolutely agree with PPRuNe Pop that he never got drunk at a GATBASH because he was way too responsible, with so much to do to make sure everything went well. And he did do magnificent work for those bashes. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . However, you may like to ask him about some other bashes like - for example - Zoombashes and Milanbashes. I think he went some way to REALLY enjoying himself at those! That's all I shall say on the matter! Well - - - apart from saying that he managed to catch up on quite a lot of missed sleep in my armchairs various and at a certain dining table in Milan!!! :E:E:E PPRuNe Pop 25th Nov 2009, 09:43 :ok::ok: 'Tis true - actually, I was feeling a tad sorry for myself this good morn - but not any more. Arrgh! Zoom and Milan. At Zoom the chairs were all comfortable the booze was in abundance, the food was brilliant - I tried them all :E but the chairs won AND, I had the benefit of my own CC who pandered to my every wish - well G&T's anyway, lots of them (feel sick OzMate?). As for Milan, well that was something else. The table in question seemed to have 'elbow recesses,' so a nap was entirely in order - and necessary. Anyway, mine host stuck a bottle of Sambuca in front of me (with a suitable amount of coffee beans) so what are you to do, and I just felt so sleeeeeepppppppyyyyyyyyyy! Wonderful memories, wonderful people (just like the GatBashes) and when they are all friends it does have an effect on one's ability to have a bloody good time. And them that know's will vouch that I did. No point being there if you don't! OzExpat 26th Nov 2009, 06:23 Yes indeed Pop! For some strange reason, the G/Ts here don't taste as good as they do in the UK! Supermattt 1st Dec 2009, 17:45 Hi Pop and OzExpat, I remember you both also. Hi everyone. I thought forums notified you when people replied to your posts... Anyway... No more GatBashes!?!? That is a shocker as surely there is more need now for the seminar bit than ever...or a least as much as in 2002 say. I too only had one flying hour when attending my last GatBash. I note people say they would be up for a Bash but no-one taking on the mantle of organising....should I? Would be a bit wierd for me to as I don't know any of the potential attendees and am not one of the old timers...but that's the point...to meet people and, I can get drunk ok. Hmmm. PPRuNe Pop 1st Dec 2009, 20:47 Supermatt, I promise you that the trend for the size of Gatbash we had was down! The last one was just viable with 75 people attending. In the end only 61 turned up and 8 of those didn't pay up. People these days like the opportunity but will not commit. A much smaller version could be organised with people paying for their own rooms and food etc but you would not get the rates that a good number of attendees would guarantee - by that I mean a minimum of 30 rooms - guaranteed. So, it's sad but true I'm afraid. OzExpat 12th Dec 2009, 07:07 G'day Supermatt. Speaking as one who has had some peripheral involvement in the far less complex arrangements for the OzBash events we used to have, I can assure you that you don't want to volunteer to arrange one! For us, the venue is usually pretty straight forward and we don't make a special arrangement for dinner - usually just get in the fod queue at the chosen venue. The big difficulty is to book tables and, for that, you need definite numbers of people who will attend. Getting the numbers is the hard part and you can look awfully silly if you've booked tables for 30+ people and only 5 turn up. You might even end up getting stuck with a cancellation fee for the unused seats. The bigger problem, however, is to find a date that meets with general agreement. Many folks have different working times and/or other commitments that preclude a reasonable consensus date. I've often found, prior to travel to the UK for example, that I advertise a date and time when I'll be at a particular pub. I'll get there and just wait to see if anyone turns up. That way, you find a few people who are looking for an excuse for a few drinks - and we all know that, while an excuse is not expressly necessary, it's always better to have one! :ok: ExSimGuy 6th Jan 2012, 14:58 We weren't. We were just continuing a conversation while she took a leak! Anyway, I'm very happily married to TechChick now :ok: "Those were the days" ;) (Maybe, probably, TC and I would make it to one in MAN. I might even offer to get ot organised with a few hints from PPP. We're only 50 miles away . . . . . ) |
