Found this on another board:

I understand that Jelsoft the people who provide the vBulletin software Brad uses are proposing to double the cost of the annual licence from February 2010.

Apparently the company has been sold and, for some reason, five employees who had been with the company since 2000 left shortly after.

The information on the proposed price increase was leaked when someone accidently opened the internal bulletin board, on which employees were discussing the proposed price increase, to public viewing.

How does something like that affect us, the users of the forum? We do not pay to use it, so there is no anticipated "passing the cost to consumer" scenario. The owners must be compensated based on the advertising revenues generated through ads combined with the total viewer numbers.

Also if the cost is 2K/yr and it went to 4, so what? Doesn't seem like a lot. Or is it 30K and gone to 60? That would be a lot. Could it be a million going to two? I think it is all relative and should be viewed as part of the overall business model picture. In itself it does not seem to have much meaning.

Jelsoft, like PPRuNe, is owned by Internet Brands.
