Cockpit for Hobby ?

I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the correct forum so apologies before hand !

I’ve always had a great interest in aviation from my Toddler years onwards.

When I was a kid I was fascinated ( still am ) by Cockpits. If I ever had the chance to play in one I could spend hours. I always thought it would be fantastic to have my own !

It never happened however I’m now much older and perhaps in a position to acquire one for my kids.

I’ve seen various Cockpits owned by individuals at shows that are kept in fantastic condition.

I have a little space and while not enough to house a Victor Cockpit I could probably stretch to something of Tornado size.

With my interest in aviation and engineering it could prove to be a worthy hobby.

Now for the help. How does one go about tracking down a cockpit section and what would the likely cost be ? Would their be anything available now ie Jags, Tornado’s ? If the initial cost would be thousands then it’s a non starter. If the initial cost is reasonable but requires outlay over a number of years that’s not a problem.

Any help or advice welcome.

fakepilot : If only I had the technical ability :hehe: I do however admit to enjoying Flight Sim.

In my defense I did start flying when I was only 14 but had to stop due to very bad air sickness. Broke my heart....

Slightly bigger than you wanted but a vc10 cockpit has appeared on brize burning area..not sure who you would speak to about it.

Rockridge. Thanks very much for the info. I would dearly love a VC10 flight deck.

Alas if I turned up with that on the back of a low loader I think the Mrs would have me talking a few Octaves higer than is natural for a bloke !

It would be great if it could be rescued though ?

Looking at the Newark kit I think the ability to move the prospective airframe bit around would be a bonus.

It would be fantastic having access to something like that. Whats the quality of the graphics like ?

Perhaps if we have a whip round on the Forum ? £750k is a bit out of my price range.

State-of-the-art. For 1980. Apollo 13 had greater computing power. Hours "flown" were logged as night. Glass spikes in the terrain software, distinct delays between control input, display refresh and platform response, and on the whole was about as reliable as the airframe it replicated.

Tuesday slots were never popular, and we'd try to palm them off onto the Cloggies, who drove down from Den Helder to use the sim. Monday was sheet-exchange day, and on Tuesdays the garrison laundry used most of the available steam.
