The Chief of The Air Force was quoted in the press today and I noticed he used the words Air Force, when discussing policy. The words RAAF seem to have disappeared from official use - or is that my imagination.

Apparently we don't use the word, "The," anymore. It's not The Air Force; it's Air Force. The army has become simply - Army. Like each of the three is an individual person:
"Air Force will not fly on weekends."
"Army is getting some new tanks."
"Navy announces: Poofters Allowed"
It takes a bit of practice and I don't recall it ever being announced - it's just one of those "in" things like yuck-speak on the news. You pick it up from others like a dose of the clap.
