Looks like someone's been at the photoshop. Whom in their right mind would crank up that close to anyone, let alone a crowd that large.

Cannot be true. None of the girls' hairdos are moving.

I don't think these photographs have beeb photoshopped.
When you take pictures with supertelephoto lenses from a good distance, the landscape depth get compressed.
The distance between foreground and background looks shorter for longer focals at bigger distance.
Any amateur or professional will confirm.
Have a look here.

I always thought the UH-60 had a very strong rotor down wash ..

I had the experience of witnessing a Mi-17 take off, and the spectators at the landing pad (a school ground) who were about more than 100 meters away got blown away .. and when the chopper came in to hook the load, it was mayhem ..

The picture is amazing, as it does look like some guy trying to place his hand on the tail rotor .. wonder what happened if there was 'contact':mad:

Could be true, no big deal in a third world country (sorry to put Mexico in that class but they don't have the health and safety laws of a western european country), have been on Super Pumas and 212's in East Timor and Oman with crowds right up next to machine, you just hope like hell nothing goes wrong, but if you waited for officials (police etc) to clear the crowd you would be there all day, fact of life in these countries , those who live in the shelted western world just don't see things like that.

Ask Aser he is the Mexican helo guru, should be able to shed light on this event.

P.S. Love the rocket pods on the Black Hawk, that is crowd control!!

Saigon, April '75... :(

I think vaibronco is correct - although deceptive, the perspective of the 'layers' of onlookers in the telephoto'd shots seem to show a sufficiently large area freed up for departure.

NO PHOTOSHOP HERE, read the text above, he's got it right.

More Photos Here (http://web.me.com/helipilot/Site/Desfile.html)

I took the pics myself yesterday, the helicopters landed there after a rappeling demostration, when they landed the area was clear, after the parade they had to takeoff, but it would have been impossible to clear all those people, so they just set up a perimeter and trusted their helicopters.

Ask Aser he is the Mexican helo guru, should be able to shed light on this event. Hahahaha! I don't know how Aser for being Spanish is getting confused with a Mexican? Doubt he's ever been to Mexico?

What's interesting is that in the second photo - of the -60 hovering over the crowd - the cameras are all pointed in what appears to be the right direction. So too do the heads.

Remember the scenes at Arafat's funeral. The crowd were firing rifles whilst the helis were arriving ! This looks calm by comparison...

Blender,

Can you estimate the clearance around the helicopters on lift?

So fake...

Zoom lenses foreshorten the apparent distance between two objects.

How close is the vehicle to the building?

The vehicle doesn't move, but watch it appear to be closer to the building as the focal length (bottom corner) changes.
