Hi. What's involved in using an Australian CASA CPL for work in NZ? Is there a conversion required?

Is there a conversion required? In theory, No.

Look up TTRMA, (Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement).
Go the the CAA website.

How much commercial work have you done on the licence? With a licence without any productive hours on it you may have a few extra hoops to jump thru.

Is the licence current? i.e. current Oz Class 1 and current BFR as I think these have to be up to date for the conditions of the TTRMA.

Finally why would you bother? There are plenty of out of work pilots here.
