600 Jet pilots call in sick in support of their two colleagues, who have been apparently sacked for daring to form the National Aviators Guild.

Support for their colleagues - now there's a novel concept. Might it ever spread to the Gulf.........................??

According to the media, the plan is now to backfill the ranks with 60-80 new expat pilots. Only problem is they pay everyone late, including the expats. It is going to be kind of hard to attract expats when you don't really plan to pay them in a timely manner in the first place.

Pay for August now expected by Sept 15th... if at all. Jet may run out of money before then. At which point they'll probably set up another carrier and restart ops. But don't worry you can take them to court over your pay in the Bombay courts. I'm sure you'll get your money eventually (20 yrs later).:rolleyes:

BTW, next time you see a Jet Airways pilot, or hear him/ her on the radio, offer to buy them a beer. These guys have amazing courage to stand up for their colleagues. This strike is about getting back 2 (now 6) pilots who were sacked but given no reason. They were the two who set up the union.

I say good on them. They have balls, unlike most of the other Pilots around the world! All i hear in my airline is talk... these guys have gone past that and united with actions. Good on ya guys! :ok::ok::ok:

Last night their chairman,was on TV saying he will sack more pilots if they don't come back to work. Pilots say they won't come back to work unless they sacked pilots are reinstated. When asked how he'll run his airline w/o pilots he said, "today there are pilots from all over the world who are available."

Now who among you is going to come to India to help undermine a labor effort? And who among you is going to do it for free? He doesn't pay!

Managements all over the world are studying this event. It is a very media-intensive situation. They are all of the belief that we pilots are desperate and will do anything for a job including fkng over our own IFALPA brothers. Even if your not a union type, you have to agree that what they're doing here is wrong. Shame on anyone if they're considering coming to work and being played as a pawn in mgmt's game.

It is not as easy to leave your home country and become an expat. As far as I know, in India you need security clearance and validations, which take months.

I believe that Jet will not be able to replace 300 pilots overnight, even if they could find Boeing 737 and airbus 320 pilots.

In this recession, pilots will not be willing to leave their jobs to try something new. Those unemployed might, but again, from I want to come, to actually taking a job is a big step.

Both he and his mgmt team say "there are plenty of pilots available worldwide."

Plenty of qualified pilots?

Plenty who will work for free then get thrown out the door when the companies whims and fancies change?

Plenty who can speak english?

Plenty who love the stench on living in a 3rd world country?

Plenty who want to pay NYC and Tokyo prices for their accomadation?

Plenty who want to pay for the own tix home off Jet Airways network?

These are no longer the glory days of the boom years in India aviation.

I think he's going to have a hard time finding suitable replacements, not to mention each one is going to be given a tough time by the DGCA who have themselves grown pretty anti-expat lately.

A Gulfair Pilot was recently "Terminated" for not having his visas renewed by the Ministry. After 17 years with the Company, he received TWO phone call of regret.

Long time back, I contemplated strike busting at United. I received a call from a "Teamster" who asked if I liked my kids walking around Denver on their OWN legs !!

Things have changed at JET. Well done Guys. As a Professional Group, we should have done this, countless times in the past . Lets hope the world pilot population standsby the action and sees the re-instatement . Clearly, a worthy action by a worthy group.

I don't dispute that there are plenty of mercenaries out there. But today is different. In today's connected world, it is hard to ignore the mistreatment. If anyone is qualified for a left seat position at Jet, then they're qualified elsewhere. Jet isn't the only carrier hiring right now.

India is no picnic. And working for an airline that doesn't pay is a non-starter for everyone.

That is the kind of collegues you need in this job. Great job, I hope the 2 will be reinstated. As far as expats go that try to steal their jobs, get their names on a list somewhere so we know them if the rats show up in the Gulf.

Would be an interesting exercise if the Mod could set up a vote/poll of those in EK who would support such an action as happened in Jet Airways.
