Hi. What is entailed in the Australian CPL Flight Test (VFR) and what's the current all in cost including aircraft hire and examinater fees? Cheers.

Depends what aircraft you do it in. I did mine few weeks ago in a 172RG all up it was about $700 for 3hrs. Download the CPL test application form of the casa website and it tells you what the test involves (should involve) :ok:

From memory the test fee is about $550. I did mine coming up 3 years ago and I don't think I got any change from $1k for the test only.

Usual CPL trainer is anywhere from $250-300 an hour, test is about 3hrs. ATO fee around $500, plus some CASA fees and landing fees etc. about another $200. so your looking at + $1500. Test is a nav, usually out to some insignificant speck in the middle of nowhere, some circuits involving short field t/o and landing, flapless, the usual stuff. A diverson, some IF and UA recovery, lost procedure, some random simulated emergencys (ie they may pull a breaker on you or say 'whatever is broken, what are you going to do', testing to see if you know your aircraft systems, that kinda stuff) EFATO, forced landing, navaid work, thats about it I think. Get the form off your instructor, it has all the boxes that need to be ticked and what limits you need to fly within.

Goodluck!

as others have said... My test fee was $550 for the ATO - seems to be about the going rate from them these days.. with hire rate for the 172RG, landing fees etc there wasnt much change out of $1300.

When I grow up, I want to be an ATO :} Thread drift, but how exactly do you become one??

When I did a test for PIFR RNAV and NDB approaches etc etc (same class of ATO as CPL I think) the ATO rate was $150 per VDO hour plus GST. 3.2 x $165 = $528, plus aircraft hire.

So to answer the original question - it depends how long the test flight is but expect cost to be in excess of $1000.

Its peanuts when you consider your career prospects.
You wont know what to do with your money when you're a 744 CAPTAIN in a couple of years.
