While that report gave a good overall picture of the airline industry, it didn't accurately reflect the situation in the middle east. This part of the world is not so immune against the global financial crisis, however it seems that it won't hit as hard as it did in other regions. Demographic advantages along with the backing of wealthy governments are likely to be the survival factors for airline firms here. GDP rates are slowing down but they are still in the green zone. For those who own the cash, like GCC countries for instance, this economic climate is giving an opportunity to have some good gains on the expenses of shrinking economies elsewhere. That applies to the aviation industry in particular, and I think this explains why expansion plans around here are moving forward in order to come out of this financial meltdown stronger than ever before. So if the whole thing is going to reshape the future, I believe it's going to be on the side of these wealthy countries.

Jazeera Airways extends network to Abu Dhabi
David Kaminski-Morrow, London (27Aug09, 09:56 GMT, 95 words)

Kuwait's budget airline Jazeera Airways is to open a link to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, complementing its Dubai service.
The carrier, which uses Airbus A320s, is to begin operating the route twice-daily from 25 October.
Jazeera claims it will be the first low-fares airline to perform non-stop services to the capital.
"Abu Dhabi is a key milestone for us to become the leading regional network carrier," says chief Stefan Pichler.
Jazeera's expansion comes just a few months after it was forced to cut back its network out of Dubai following regulatory changes.
