nightrating..

hi everyone just a quick question about the nightrating for hourbuilding.... do i need to have the nightrating done before i hourbuild ?? just read on a flightschools website in the states/florida that requires the night rating to hourbuild before you can hire there aircraft.. is this just a rule laid down by certain schools or a general rule ?? :cool:

You don't need a night rating to hour build just a PPL, this must be just a requirment by that flying school.

You don't even need a night qualification prior to commencing your CPL course, however if you don't have one it needs to be incorporated into the course and CPL instructors are invariably a lot more expensive than PPL instructors who would usually do a night qualification.

Flying schools can attach whatever conditions they like to you hiring their aircraft, and it's probably related in some way to the fact that the FAA PPL includes night privileges as part of the basic license. Why they should think you unsafe without such an endorsement when you have no plans to fly after dark is a little bemusing.

If you want to fly at night you need to do the qualification first, you could just do it when you get to whichever school you are hiring from, though you'd have to wait to use it until the paperwork was done.

Quite often laid down by schools so that if you get caught out by some weather which isn't going to clear till the evening that you are not stuck somewhere.

If you haven't flown since your PPL and are post ATPL theory - it's a good thing - means you can sharpen your skills with the instructor for the hour building which in turn is then for the CPL.
