I have been told that the slip/skid indicator on the PFD will not go beyond the edge of the roll pointer. However, my training notes has a diagram showing otherwise.

Also, during a CMC IRU Ground Test, I have seen the skid indicator momentarily go more than a bar length beyond the roll pointer.
Admittedly, test conditions can generate some spurious indications and notes are often wrong.

Has any 744 pilot here seen the skid indicator go beyond the edge of the roll pointer? (in the sim or in real life).

Thanks

I have had 2, three engine landings in the 744. (both in the first 6 months)

In the sim and the real life scenarios, I have done my best not to let things get that far out of whack.

I cannot answer that question and hope I never see it, except on a demo.

Seems from the diagrams that the SLIP/SKID indicator differs on the LCD screens to that on the CRT, similar to the change that was made to the heading bug.

Never understood the 'advantage' of these things over a conventional and instantly intuitive slip / skid ball.

Thanks for the input, gents. Looks like I'll have to get some simulator time ;)
