Just a heads up

From 27th Aug YBLT will change its CTAF Frequency to 127.75

NOTAM

CTAF 127.75, AIP ERSA 27 AUG 2009 REFERS AMD
AIP MAP ERC L1, ERC L2, TAC 3, VNC 1
DATED 4 JUNE 2009
FROM 08 261600 TO PERM

I also noticed Melbourne Centre frequency out that way has changed as well from 125.7 to 132.32. Anyone know why? Is there some sort of magnetic interference out that way on the lower frequencies?

Would help if people actually READ their CURRENT documents and notams every once in a blue moon.
Amazing how many people kept transmitting on the old Kingaroy/Gayndah freq when it became 126.7.:rolleyes:

RAPAC were informed that at Mt Macedon there is a lot of transmitting equipment operating on a wide variety of frequencies. Interference was occurring to 125.7 when certain combinations of the other equipment were transmitting. 132.325 was selected as a frequency not affected by any combination of transmitters.

This is a good move, but Bacon Lettuce Tomato is in danger of needing to be controlled soon. It's a nightmare at lunchtime on a saturday, and STATA are only going to get bigger.

Listened to an amusing argument between a STATA cadet and some other poor RA bugger about holding points on the radio the other day. Said STATA cadet had taxied past the holding point, said RA bloke and others in circuit had to keep going around.. Funny stuff.

That said, CASA are supposed to monitor the level of movements at uncontrolled aerodromes and when the level reaches a certain point and they believe it is in the interests of safety to do so, they can mandate the AD OPR to put in a CA/GRS in the first instance. a TWR is the next step up from that.

Well who indeed will pay... everyone who tries to use the joint presumably. Then they'll all just move to BSS.

You can throw Mangle-more into the same boat too, now that I think of it - although BLT has more of a dangerous mix - overseas cadets in 172s, "i-take-life-too-seriously" types in Tecnams and then the occasional IFR twin.

Just to keep things accurate here it's 134.32 to the west of ML, not 134.325 as mentioned here, we have not yet gone to 5 khz spacings as far as I know (could be wrong there though) as most older radios can't be tuned that fine.

Thank God for the CTAF change though, was a real danger (still exist there at BLT) but at least I/we won't have to battle with 3 in total all within ear shot of each other

p.s.........don't 4get 'flypy' we (Air Ambo's) have to fly into BLT, considered pretty much the most dangerous, followed by LTV & SHT, eeeek!

It is indeed 134.325, and the channel spacing is 25kHz.

RAPAC Meeting: 2008-3 Date: 16 October 20086.3. Frequency change Mt Macedon 125.7 Mhz to 134.325Mhz

Discussion:

The Melbourne Centre frequency 125.7Mhz , that is used in the area 30-100NM NE ML W&NW quadrant ABV 8500FT ( see attached diagram) will have to be changed to 134.325Mhz due to severe intermodulation interference. This frequency is located at Mt Macedon and over the last three months has been subject to severe interference so bad at times to render the frequency unusable. The only way to solve this problem is to change the frequency and the only available frequency that will not cause this problem is one that has 25 KHz spacing, therefore it is necessary to go to the new frequency of 134.325 MHz.

AIC H11/05 http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/publications/current/sup/a9-h03.pdf approves the use of 25KHz channel spacing in high –density traffic areas (mainly classes C,D and E airspace) from November 2006.

I really don't think it will ever be controlled there, it's not busy enough and weekends don't count alone, there are plenty of others in line first.

It will be interesting to see what happens to s/a in general with the changes....

especially those on the wrong frequency operating in/out of the ctaf.

I recall a couple of years ago Wagga changed it's CTAF-R frequency - I think with effect via a chart & ERSA release in late November. Then a UNICOM trial started in January, and over the course of the trial reporting period (4 months or so) they reported a number of incidents with pilots operating on the wrong frequency including RPT.

What can you do when so many do not check NOTAMs.

Its amasing how many pilots have come in the last couple of days on 126.0 still. So much for looking at the NOTAMS
