just created a new my iPod library and have several thousand duplicate tracks. I can erase the track info from the pod but this doesn't solve the problem on the hard drive.

Is there a program, running under Windows, that seeks out and removes duplicates?

How to Remove Duplicates From Your iTunes Library (http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/duplicates/index.shtml)

This gives a few links to software that will do the hard work. You might have to pay for it though. Worth every penny ( cent) in my opinion.

Thanks Hamrah, unfortunately the links only work with a Mac. Also the info is only about removing the files from the iPod library. i want to delete the duplicates from my hard drive using Windows

When deleting songs from the library, itunes should give the option of deleting just from the library or from the hard disc too I believe.

I used to use Music Match, which did allow that. Unfortunatelyit's disappeared into iTunes. I think the problem is that it's a Mac program emulating a Windows one although on Hamrah's link you need an add-on to solve the problem.

Googling "duplicate files" has now solved the problem, I think. There are a number of solutions there.
