Just wondered if any military crew (old or new) recognise the term STIR in relation to the selection or VOR as a primary navigation aid?

That's a new one to me! Got taught STIMF in my day...

I don't recognise it particularly but it looks like Select Tune Identify Radial.

Other ones from the late 80s-early 90s include TIMTS Tune Identify Marker Track Select or STIMFED Select Tune Identify Marker Flags away Estimate Drift
It all depended on the type of aircraft, all as far as I can remember.

I've heard of STIFF QWIM but fail to remember what it stood for, just always made me smile on an IRT!

I was taught STINT FLAGS going through BFTS - Select, Tune, Identify, Nav Mode, Track (ILS, TACAN or VOR) and Flags away.

Seems to cover all the relevant things.
