From the Sunday Times yesterday:

"Minster of defence Lindiwe Sisulu told the Sunday Times this week that the SANDF would “aggressively be selling itself” as a service provider to supplement its budget.
"Another revenue generatoring stream could be the training of pilots for civilian airline companies."
One has to wonder where those skills are going to come from. I was unaware that the SAAF specialised in
ATPLs unless of course it is once again going the "plastic" route.

The SANDF do not even have the ability to train their own pilots....(outsourcing their helicopter training, possibly fixed wing training, makes me wonder....).

Plenty of possible candidates could be found storming the Union Buildings. They will make top class Airline Pilots. Well done SAAF and SANDF. We look forward to working with your highly trained undisciplined mob

Hmmmm...........unfortunately CRM is a concept that most military pilots seen to feel exempt from. Roll on the future of SAA :}

CRM has much less to do with flying than those who would support their own interests by advocating the concept would have you believe.
Roll on the day when civil aircraft are flown by heavy transport ex military crew. Mind you, since the harbour master at Capetown peeved off the USA by not admitting the US fleet, there are not so many of those Hercules flying in SA now.
That was an exercise in political correctness, aka CRM, that bit back.

One of the insidious effects of CRM has been to raise certain First Officers to positions of authority far beyond their capabilities. In achieving this, CRM has functioned as a form of nepotism which would never have been tolerated in a chain of military command where human resources were utilized and cherished to the maximuam levels possible.and where promotion was based upon experience, maturity and dedication and not solely upon ability to operate a sophisticated weapons control platform while beig polite to batwoman brewing tea in the ward room..

Why use tax paying money?
Okay...all training removed from civil sector, includes SAA to completely government controlled sector.
Government agency - SAAF- says pilot ready for employment and competent to handle jets - big-small-indifferent.
SAA has no optional but to give man a jod.
Therefore SAA looses first line of defence against those who should never be pilots?
