I have recently been rejected after attending my stage 1b interview and I can’t think why?

I got a third in Mechanical engineering at Uni, which has always been my downfall in interviews and the first question they asked was "do you think you could have done better in any of you academic qualifications."

I thought the best answer would have been to say "yes and explain that I messed up at Uni but have learned a valuable lesson, not to throw away any opportunities given to me. Apart from that I think the interview went relatively well. Could anyone suggest a reason or tell me the criteria for getting passed stage 1b as I want to improve so that next year I have a fighting chance of getting through.

P.s I completed my degree 5 years ago.

Thanks a lot

George

Hello Mate,

sorry to hear that and I understand your disappointment...the most important thing is that you now have experience of a real airline interview and you will know what to expect during your next interview.
I have my interview next Thursday, and I'm affraid to be rejected because of my university transcript too.....

Am very sorry to hear that....

its usually very difficult to evaluate what could have gone wrong in an interview....I think its great you addressed the issue about your academic qualification - that would have been much better than denying it or making up excuses....

I am not sure about your aviation background - but one thing to try before your next application may be getting more flying experience?? Like I said, I don't know what experiences you have under your belt...but just a thought...

stage 1a, 1b...etc etc is for candidates who came to HK for the interviews....for candidates being interviewed in their own country the stages are a little different in order to prevent multiple trips to HK....

having said that - by the end of the sleection process - all candidates would have been assessed through the same tests/interviews

You mean you are "third" in your mechancial engineerring class and they are not satisified with that?

my guess is that your academic transcript per se was not the direct cause for rejection. perhaps you didn't have enough work/co-curricular/aviation-related qualifications to catch their eye, which was exacerbated by the spotty school record?

if you really cannot figure out why you were rejected, think about giving them a call to ask them about it. it cannot do you any harm!
