I am off to the Whitsundays (Hamilton Island specifically) for a holiday. Looking to take the family up whilst up there for a scenex by hiring a single for a few hours. Have searched the forums with no luck, and also Google.
Can anyone tell me where you can hire a single from up that way? Hamilton, Proserpine, Shute or Airlie?

Try Air Pioneer or Horizon Airways at Mackay, not aware of any places closer. Next place would be Rocky aeroclub I think, not sure whats available at Townsville, but those places are getting pretty far away. MKY is your best bet, but even thats probably too far for you!

The closest aircraft that I know to be available for hire are the two Mackay operators mentioned above.
Another possibilty is Ayr Flying Services - Neil Hoffensetz. In the past Neil has done BFR's for local pilots whilst a student has been doing a navex.
The local aero club based at Shute Harbour has had aircraft available in the past, however I haven't heard or seen the 172 for a couple of months.
