Does anyone know the 'when, where and why' regards the lion landscape in the background? Does it still exist? The photo comes from a book published in 1961.

The Lion is the one carved on the hillside below Whipsnade Zoo.
In those days Huntings used to try to get it in the background of their air to airs as a matter of policy.
This did cause amusement on one occasion in the late 50's when it was only noticed afterwards that the carving had been subject to a student prank that left one in no doubt as to the sex of the beast.
In fact - if you look carefully at the picture.............

If you fly into Luton airport from the west now you can still see this proud beast.
