You can get a one-year validation of your non-commerical priviliges (PPL / IR / ME) without doing any conversions. Call the NCAA (+47) 7558-5000 or send them an email at postmottak@<hidden>.
Beyond a year, or if you want to retain your CPL, you've got to go through the JAA conversion process. It won't come cheap, and takes time.
The job-market is grim in Europe at the moment; especially in Scandinavia. Everyone and their dog has a 737 rating and the companies hiring certainly don't balance the numbers getting furloughed. Most look to the middle east for opportunity, but even there things are grinding to a halt.
That being said, I know things are equally bad in Canada, but your chance of landing a decent job will be higher in Europe once a recovery has been made. We've got higher training costs, more buraucracy, less job prestige, and a virtually non-existant GA compared to North America. For all these reasons, the number of jobs divided by the number of hopefulls remains higher in Europe.
So the cup is either half full or half empty.
Cheers.
