With great sadness from the BBC tonight HarryPatch has passed away. The last link with the great sacrifice made by those in World War One.

A sad week.

Harry and Henry were not heroic in the conventional sense - they simply and 'just' did what was asked of them, humbly and without (too much I imagine :ok:) rancour. Age alone does not imply deity, but it does confer respect and the greatest respect we could show to their memory is to ensure that military veterans who are coming after them get treated properly when they still have a life left to look forward to.

So, as we have Cheshire Homes, why not have Allingham & Patch (admittedly, although a bit Estate Agency-ey, it does has a great ring to it already!) Homes for Twenty First Century Veterans? As David Hill says; "There are many challenges ahead including how best to meet the needs of the Veterans we care for and how Combat Stress, as a charity, can meet the ever increasing cost of providing these services."

In a similar vein, I read about Group Captain Lake's final breakfast of a pint, and smiled. I was reminded of Jeanne Calment who only quit smoking at 119 because she couldn't see well enough to light up.

I think that it was the U.S. Army General George S.Patton who said " Do not mourn these men, just thank God that such men lived"
I think that those sentiments are applicable to any military men in any conflict.
