Hi.

I am recent PPL(A) with a little over 70 Hours TT, and am looking to visit somewhere away from the local area. I am besed near Andrewsfield in essex, and would be looking for a destination about 1.5 flying hours away using a PA28-161.

I would go to france, but need to be checked out by the club first, so needs to stay within the UK for now.

Any ideas and destinations would be good.

Should really say that I have been to some of the following places and so would like to try other places.

Earls Colne
Rougham
Norwich
Conington
Cambridge
RAF Marham
Southend
Rochester
Headcorn
Welshpool
Shobdon
Cranfield

some help would be good.

Thanks

Great Oakley. Unlicensed but a fine runway and very easy.

IOW either Bembridge or Sandown both good.

Good preparation for a channel crossing as well.

I went to Bembridge last weekend, I'd recommend there.

Why not visit the dark side? Lasham gliding society. Very busy in good weather. Prior permision only but welcoms occasional power pilots, especially if they are flying something interesting. Recent visitors have included bell 47, spitfire mk9, 757, pitts, longeze etc. Good restaurant and plenty to see

Is Clacton not doable in a PA-28? 5 mins from the beach.

Beccles is also nice - fly along the coast - pub a short walk away along the fields. Has a market - Sunday I think.

Go to Bourne for a bit of eccentricity.

Chichester -- good lunches and you may see a bit of track day driving.
White waltham -- Good atmosphere of old flying club style.
Compton abbas -- nice countryside -- and good cakes.
Popham -- my favourite for good fly-ins and lots of interesting activity.

Shoreham is missing from your list and worth a visit.

Plenty to see from the air:- Brighton, South Downs, Seven Sisters cliffs to Beachy Head and Eastbourne.

Duxford is also a local flight for you. Allow a few hours to visit the museum.

I would go to france, but need to be checked out by the club first...

So get the checkout and head to France! The saving you make on fuel drawback should pay for the checkout :ok:

If your going to Bembridge the crab and lobster pub does nice food and is only a 5min cab ride. If you fancy a bit of light exercise you can walk along the cliff edge back to the field.

When I go there although a little longer I go down to SFD and route along the coast, much nicer and a bit more of a smooth ride.

Have fun

I flew to Bembridge on Sunday and spent the afternoon on the beach at Whitecliff Bay - the water was freezing.

Old Sarum has a friendly atmosphere, some interesting aircraft, and serves a lovely bacon sandwich.
