That's the expectation for the Chrome browser (on any platform): feeding back your browser history etc. to be used for "targeted" ads. This Chrome OS will be open source, so the OS code will be examined by lots of programmers, but I expect the Chrome browser will remain closed and proprietary for that reason.

"Chromium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_%28web_browser%29) is the open source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source) project behind Google Chrome.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#cite_note-1) The Google-authored portion of it is released under the BSD license (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSD_license)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#cite_note-2), with other parts being subject to a variety of different permissive open-source licenses, including the MIT License (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_License), the LGPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Lesser_General_Public_License), the Ms-PL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ms-PL) and a MPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Public_License)/GPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License)/LGPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Lesser_General_Public_License) tri-license (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual-licensing).[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#cite_note-3) It implements the same feature set as Chrome, but has a slightly different logo.[5]" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#cite_note-4)

Voluntary divide and conquer has always been the Achilles heel of Linux home computing. With the muscle of Google behind it, I think this is at last going to be something to cause late night indigestion in Redmond.
It will be fascinating to see how it develops.
