I'm going from near Shobdon (EGBS) to Walton Wood (near Pontefract) tomorrow, Monday July 6th.

In a R22.

Leaving around 10;00, heading back around 15:00. Timing is fairly flexible.

To log the time you will need to be current and type-rated.

It's a great way of building your hours at half the usual cost, as per the CAA guidelines.

I've also got another Italy trip coming up in the next month, again in a R22.

If you would like to come on either trip and log the time, please PM me.

Excuse my ignorance biggles99,

But if you are doing the trip anyway, will both of you be logging the hours, 50/50 or all for your 'customer'?
Will they be hands on, safety pilot, nav/rads, or simply someone to talk to so you can half your costs?
Does lunch come included?

I'm sure you'll find someone, but I already see 3 probs;

It's certainly about halving costs, for sure.

It's also about helping people who still have to pay to fly keep their costs down as they build up to being a Pro.

It's also about encouraging people to keep flying who would otherwise give up due to high costs and lack of confidence.

R22: yes, a lighter co-pilot would be good.

Lunch? Well that depends.

Weather forecast: I learnt with a living legend nearly 20 years ago and one of his MANY sayings I still remember was

"Only get a weather forecast if you don't want to go."

Not always true, I concede, and only pertinent to rotary transport, of course.

But it still makes me smile.

it was said in good humour and with a light touch.

I for one have read/watched/listened to more forecasts than I have had flights, and I'm sure the same is true for you and everyone else who reads this forum.

You really shouldn't read too much into these quips, it will drive you crazy.

Sorry. I forgot to put out a NOTAM at Shawbury. You should have seen the Squirrels scatter and run for their lives as your R22 cut a swathe through the East of LFA9 this morning! Serves them right really. They were stupid to have been flying with such a weather forecast.

just thought you'd like to know that I made it Pontefract and back, safe and sound.

There was plenty of CB activity, especially around Sheffield, but nothing that a 20 mile detour couldn't sort out.

JJ - I didn't see a single squirrel, or any other furry animal for that matter. All I could hear was a lot of panicky radio calls.

I couldn't get through, so I assumed that there was something wrong with my radio. So I selected 7700 to show I had a problem with my radio on that funny black box thing, but all that happened was that the panicky radio calls got worse, especially as I flew right over this big airfield just north of Shrewsbury.

Oh how I laughed when I got to the other end and found out that I had put the wrong headset on.

How does bringing someone along halve the cost of hours building? You split the hours, you split the cost, it's still full cost per hour in the logbook.

Unless, of course, you're suggesting something illegal like both logging the hours...

Let's say Big Ls is a private owner and needs to get the aircraft to Italy. He could fly it all himself or, he could share the flying.

If Big Ls does not need the hours for hour-building and can receive some costs back towards a trip he has to make anyway, then he saves and an hour-builder gets some flying in.

Biggles could of course be an instructor and then they both could legally log the hours................
or maybe he isn't. Maybe he's just got 'thousands of hours in the R22 and isn't into hours building any more.

I told you about that headset thing when we last flew that 'hours sharing' trip together when we were both hours building for our CPL(H)s. I can't believe you made the same mistake twice in one flying carreer! :ugh:

Hello,

On Friday morning I have a seat in an R22.

From Wadebridge,Cornwall to Veritair at the Cardiff Heliport. ETA approx 11:00.

I'll be leaving Cardiff around 15:00 ish for Shropshire where the journey will end.

If you want to come along, and log the hours on a cost sharing basis as per the CAA guidelines, please PM me.

(I'm leaving Shropshire early this afternoon to go to Wadebridge if you just happen to be in the area and at a loose end........)

I've just had an enjoyable day flying with BigLs; not a danger to me, the aircraft, anyone else's aircraft. Was that because we were NOTAM'd :} I noticed that all those gliders suddenly came in to land :p

There are some genuine people out there; not out to cook logbooks, not out to make a dodgy buck, just sharing their enthusiam.

It was one of the longest trips I've ever done, I learned some very useful tips and met some great people.

Whirly, thank you for you kind words - it was a great day.

Need Money - no that wasn't the Italy trip. You have probably forgotten that Whirlygig usually flies a 300. So a long flight for her is usually about 50 miles in around 2 hours.

Don't get all agitated folks, I'm only teasing......

I am planning to go to Italy next week, but my son is almost certainly going to be my crew. It's about time I did a bit of father/son bonding after 15 years!

There's another long trip coming up - to Germany and back at the end of August. We are heading off to the Championships, and I'm more than relaxed about taking two R22s. I'll be in one, and my mate will be in the other, so if you wanna come along, PM me and I'll give you some more details.
