Jet2 - CTRS Scheme

Hi. When were Jet2 last accepting low houred (ie ~250hrs) on to their CTRS scheme and did they have any preference between integrated/modular? If anyone who was successful could reply with their experiences that would be appreciated. I won't ask when there are likey to be future opportunities as I appreciate this is the 6 million dollar question (and please don't let this turn into integrated vs modular debate!!.... ;)

Integrated, modular, FIs and ex-military were all taken on.

They've recently signed a deal with Oxford who will now supply all cadet entry pilots for the next 5 years (no mention of whether they will be integrated and/ or modular Oxford students). As to how many cadets they take over the next 5 years is another question.

Jet2 do their type training with OAA now, rather than CTC. As part of this contract Jet2 have said they will consider sourcing cadet pilots from Oxford.

Its only OAA that have said that Jet2 will take ALL their cadet pilots from them! What OAA also fail to mention is that Jet2 have frozen new pilot employment for 2 years.

In the past, as Artie says, it is been through several sources. A bunch of OAT/Jerez people were taken on 2003/4, but then in other years the sources were varied, including smaller schools, PAT and even direct from CTC.

Not heard the 2 year ban myself, but it wouldn't surprise me - there are just too many qualified 73/75 people around. At the moment, Jet2 have not resorted to pay-to-fly or concentrated on cheap cadets.

They have always recruited from a wide background, and it makes the spread of ages and experiences a good one in the flight-deck.

Davey147, the agreement signed between Jet2 and Oxford involved Jet2 getting a discount on their recurrent sims in exchange for taking all their cadets from Oxford. The press release last February seemed pretty clear on this.

Oxford Aviation Academy (OAA) and UK low-fare airline Jet2.com have signed a five-year training agreement for the provision of full flight simulator (FFS) training.
As part of this Agreement, OAA will relocate a Boeing 737 Classic FFS to its Manchester Training Centre at Woodford, which is expected to be fully operational from August 2009. Jet2.com has six UK bases, including four in northern England, so the relocation of the simulator to Manchester will reduce crew training costs for the airline.
In addition to the simulator training contract, Jet2.com has agreed to source all future cadet pilots from Oxford’s ab initio pilot-training programme (APP). The APP First Officer training programme – carried out at Oxford Airport in the UK and Goodyear Airport in the USA – is a full-time course dedicated to training professional airline pilots for major airlines.



Never heard anything about a "2 year recruitment ban" either. They're not currently hiring at the moment, but there has been no mention of any specific timescale. PM is allegedly looking for new airframes as we speak - someone will have to fly them.

As I said, that press release was released by OAA.

I personally didnt sign the contract, so I cant give a definate answer, but I know from the recruiters them self that they will still accept pilots from anywhere, as they always have done. But as always they will still consider cadets from the OAA APP course.

I never said there was a recruitment bad for 2 years, I simply said that new cadet pilot recruitment has been frozen for 2 years. Artie im guessing you work for them, check your emails, you should have got one about this 2 months ago.

Obviously I couldn't see the salary, but to me at least, that looks quite attractive.

Well, hey, who knows, Jet2 HR are a law unto themselves these days, maybe (hopefully) you are right. Like no sponsor says, a wide range of backgrounds is a great thing for the flight deck. This was actively sought by the old HR team, however, the key players in the old HR team are, regrettably, gone.

It is standard practice when issuing a press release to have both parties agree to the wording before it is released. It is also standard practice to have quotes from management at both parties in the press release. Unless Oxford just made up the Jet 2 quotes, I'd say the terminology was agreed by Jet 2, as they certainly made input in the press release.

I haven't seen Oxford saying Jet 2 are planning to take anyone soon and they haven't added any to their jobs report, so it sounds a bit like a chip is on someone's shoulder here to me. Only time will tell what it really means, so we might just have to wait and see what happens when Jet 2 needs more pilots unless someone's seen the contract.
